The VP, Owned Brands is accountable for Backcountry’s branded product strategy, design, development, and overall financial management of the Backcountry Owned Brands portfolio composed of Backcountry’s multi-season and multi-sport apparel and products. Backcountry’s Owned Brands lines cover Backcountry, Competitive Cyclist, MotoSport, Steep & Cheap, and Bergfreunde for distribution world-wide. The successful candidate has a proven track record of developing brands through market positioning, product design, high performance production and supply chain relationships while delivering differentiated and unique product lines on time, on budget, and to the delight of consumers. The VP, Owned Brands also serves as a key leader within the organization and will work closely with Marketing, Merchandising, Finance, Fulfillment, Customer Service (Gearheads), and Legal Teams for company-wide strategic initiatives and projects. The VP, Owned Brands will also lead the building, developing, and coaching of a team comprised of brand merchandisers, product developers, designers, and technical designers. The VP, Owned Brands will report to the CEO and is responsible for ensuring Owned Brands meets sales goals and aligns to the company branding and distribution strategy . About the Job: • Responsible for Owned Brands revenue and margin and turn of all Owned Brands product categories, using all available sites and channels • Build strong connections with target customers through the lens of product development (vs. just building products), particularly the ability to develop a cohesive product line strategy and go-to market plan in support of the brand strategy and financial targets • Lead, manage and mentor Owned Brands Team including brand merchandisers, product developers, and technical designers to design and develop product including highly technical outerwear and insulation, distinct style-driven lifestyle apparel, and unique pursuit-driven hard goods. • Develop a deep working partnership with our gearheads as a significant input on product trend, design and customer feedback for product development. • Collaborate with the Supply Chain function to innovate and deliver small-run, short production time (3-6 months from concept to physical product) quality products • Leverage internal and external data and insights to inform all aspects of product line strategy and lifecycle management including white space analysis, sales and inventory performance to inform future opportunities and actions • Maintain and develop strategic relationships and opportunities with key vendor partners • Build capability to design and develop product from highly technical outerwear and insulation to distinct style-driven lifestyle apparel, distributed across all brands domestically and internationally. • Work closely with Finance and Planning to develop and drive the annual/quarterly revenue, buying and seasonal planning budgets, as well as manage inventory on-hand • Develop an annual/seasonal selling calendar and marketing campaigns in partnership with Marketing to highlight key products, categories and promotions, emphasizing unique and differentiated stories About You: • Bachelor’s degree required, Master's degree in business-related field is strongly preferred • At least 10+ years in private label development and management, preferably online, building innovative, market-relevant product collections where technical performance is balanced with aesthetic and translated to lifestyle apparel • Experience managing and developing a private label team, with product development, assortment, design and strategy experience as well as cross-functional experience with internal Marketing, Merchandising, Finance, Fulfillment, Customer Service, and Legal Teams. • Exceptional creative vision, design experience and trend-spotting skills with an ability to translate vision into tactical and solution-oriented tactics for teams • Demonstrated success in leading product development from concept to customer • Proven ability to attract, recruit and retain talent • Strong collaboration, communication and presentation skills to effectively drive Owned Brands execution internally • Strong analytical / financial understanding to drive growth, margin and profitability About the Company: Our mission is to connect people to their passions.
