Director, Legal Counsel- Backcountry.com (Europe) Job in Kirchentellinsfurt, VT

Backcountry seeks an experienced English and German-speaking German-qualified attorney (m/f/t/i) to support our growing complex international business operations. Reporting to the General Counsel this position is located in Backcountry’s European subsidiary, Bergfreunde.de’s corporate headquarters, in Kirchentellinsfurt, Germany. The successful candidate will provide legal support to the company’s European Managing Directors, HR, Marketing, Merchandising, Fulfillment, Finance, and Product teams as well as advising and counseling the broader business on an array of corporate, regulatory and pre-litigation matters. This is an opportunity to be part of a growing e-commerce company with a great consumer brand and to help Backcountry become an international and omni-channel retailer. The successful candidate will have 5+ years of experience in corporate and/or litigation work including expertise or exposure in the following areas: commercial transactions, product counseling, pre-litigation counseling, tax considerations, labor & employment, and privacy. For candidates without experience in each of these disciplines, comfort with learning and understanding these disciplines is required. The successful candidate will be able to work autonomously, learn quickly, identify areas where outside counsel is needed, work with US corporate center partners, work with local German teams and be able to drive and take ownership of the role and associated projects. We are a small, hard-working team focused on delivering solution-oriented legal counsel that balances legal risk against business outcomes. The candidate will also possess the following: REQUIREMENTS • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. • Strong analytical capabilities and judgment. • Ability to work proactively, independently and reliably under tight timeframes in a fast-paced environment. • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively cross-functionally, think practically and be solution-oriented. • Willingness to tackle matters outside area of expertise. • JD from accredited US or European law school. • An admission to the German bar. • Willingness to be a business partner and not just a lawyer.
