POSITION TITLE: Buyer: Hard Goods
REPORTS TO: Merch Manager: Hard Goods
BUSINESS/COMPANY/DEPARTMENT: Merchandise
LOCATION: Park City
The Backcountry Merchandising team is responsible for curating an inspiring assortment of premium outdoor goods. Through careful selection and category exploration, you will be empowered to set and implement strategic vision and purchasing objectives. Associate Buyers work with the Buyer and Senior Buyer to achieve all Merchandise Division (MD) financial goals. About the Job:
! P&L Responsibility: owns revenue, margin, inventory, receipt flow, and in-stocks levels for designated brand mix, demonstrates an ability to interpret and react to selling trends
! Assortment Selection: refine category/brand mix, seek new products/innovations, and translate activity/industry trends
! Vendor Negotiations: secure favorable discount/terms, pricing and promotional policies, work through PO compliance and issues management, and negotiate for special/exclusive buys
! PO Management: responsible for SKU creation, purchase order builds (ASAP/Forecast type, Qty/Dollar/Style Allocation, Size/Color Breakout), ensure on time submission to vendors
! Promotions: brainstorm/hindsight Promo concepts and performance, collaborate on seasonal marketing concepts for the MD. Select key styles, QA promo functionality, review and react to performance, and identify risks in the marketing calendar
! Pricing: work with the Merch Manager to set Pre-season pricing strategy, in-line/in-Season pricing (promo periods, price matching, promotional calendar management), and manage end of season price-break dates
! Inventory Management: works with Merch Manager and Planners to establish Pre-season PO Receipt Flow, Pre-season inventory allocation, set in season sell-through targets, pricing strategy for slow movers, manage Return to Vendor (RTV) and mark-down dollar requests with vendor, and ensures inventory management strategy aligned with company-wide financial goals
! Management: demonstrates strong leadership skills through coaching, direct reports' development, and cross functional work
About You:
! 3-5 years of relevant Industry Merchandising and Buying experience
! Willingness and ability to travel to as needed
! Solid foundation of Retail Math and Buying Fundamentals
! Proficient in Microsoft Office (proficiency in Excel a must)
! Proficient in Netsuite, JDA, OBI a plus
! Excellent written and verbal communication skills
! Strong analytical skills
! Outstanding time management skills
! Ability to perform under pressure and prioritize competing tasks/initiatives
