The successful candidate will lead the Merchandise Planning team for Backcountry, a fast growing and profitable business based in Park City, Utah.

The Director of Merchandise Planning is accountable for high-level coordination, aligning financial targets with company objectives. The right leader will have strategic and executional experience leading merchandise buying and planning organizations. This leader will be an excellent cross-functional partner, a terrific communicator, and will be able to develop and inspire large teams.

ABOUT THE JOB:

! Manage and drive the financial success for all merchandise divisions by meeting sales, margin, and inventory goals that maximize bottom line profitability.
! Collaborate with the VP of Merchandising to develop and communicate a comprehensive assortment strategy that supports financial goals.
! Support other department leaders to manage the monthly sales targets and create strategic 3-year outlook.
! Guide planning and merchandising teams through seasonal buy reviews in order to capitalize on new opportunities and identify risks.
! Partner with merchandise leadership on all vendor online dealer agreements and operations to ensure maximum profitability while minimizing potential risks to the organization.
! Work with Planning Managers to set category financial plans, putting strategic focus on brand, product group, and key items that will drive the assortment.
! Manage assortment rationalization framework, constructing SKU profitability guidelines in conjunction with curation initiatives based on historical data, customer trends, and market analysis.
! Establish and monitor inventory health through preseason buying budgets, inseason replenishment controls, receipt flow, sell through targets, and pricing strategies.
! Direct pricing strategies across all categories, overseeing product life cycle management, end of season markdowns, and siting allocation to optimize direct profit.
! Oversee company Open-to-Buy, providing projected sales and inventory positions on a weekly/monthly/seasonal basis.
! Formulate and present calculated recommendations from detailed analysis of historical data and current trends, identifying future risks and opportunities at the category, brand, and style levels.
! Construct forecast methodologies with supply chain financial models to support fulfillment capacity planning and set inventory allocation targets for shipping optimization.
! Serve as a key stakeholder in the development and implementation of all process and technology improvements that relate to merchandising and planning.
! Facilitate the development and improvement on reporting structure, instituting standardization and establishing centralized workflow to drive efficiency, strategic value, and support the financial success across all merchandise divisions.
! Lead team of planning managers, cultivating talent, and developing succession plans for entire team.
! Provide coaching, trainings, and mentorship for planners, buyers, and other cross-functional teams.

ABOUT YOU:

! 8+ years of experience in a Planning position, with at least 3 years at an e-commerce company.
! 2+ years of senior level management experience.

! Knowledge of planning software
! Demonstrate strong analytical and problem solving skills.
! Able to develop and maintain strong working relationships with peers and cross-functional teams.
! Flexible and adaptive to changing priorities.
! Able to perform under pressure, organize and prioritize workload to meet deadline.
! High level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel and strong aptitude to learn technical applications quickly
! Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
! Excellent presentation skills.

! Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
