You: As the Senior Soft Goods Designer on our team, you will collaborate cross-functionally with design, product management, marketing and our Hong Kong sourcing team to bring user needs, market objectives and brand experiences to life through a wide range of cut & sew bags/cases. Our soft goods products are an ever-growing offering ranging from backpacks, sleeves, briefcases, messenger bags and more. Primary responsibilities will be focused on Targus branded products but will regularly contribute to OEM projects with partners like Dell, HP and Lenovo. We’re looking for a passionate, talented and strategically-minded designer to join our team and be part of where we’re headed.

The right candidate will:

• Hold a degree in Industrial Design from an accredited university, or related experience.
• Have 5-7 years of professional experience in consumer products with concentration in soft goods/cut & sew design. Consultancy experience preferred.
• Have a proven track record of market success designing challenging and innovative products.
• Have a high degree of construction, manufacturing, materials and product development competence.
• Be driven by a Fail, Forward, Fast mentality.
• Be comfortable with demanding timelines and schedules.
• Demonstrate natural empathy, disciplined processes and child-like curiosity.

Responsibilities Include:

• Lead design of new global soft goods products – i.e. backpacks, sleeves, briefcases, messengers, totes, etc. As well as hardware, trims, etc.
• Inspire project teams through problem solving, storytelling and concept presentations.
• Work closely with design peers, Product Management, Hong Kong sourcing team and suppliers to develop products through to mass production.
• Material and CMF application across product types.
• Software mastery in Illustrator, Photoshop. Additional experience with Solidworks and Keyshot preferred.
• Wearing multiple hats and contributing to a broad range of design work-sessions: soft goods, hard goods, packaging, CMF, etc.
• Work closely with leadership and team to shape yearly CMF strategy.
• Assist with color, material, fashion and technology trend documentation.
• Asia travel 2-3 times yearly
