About the job

This position combines the skills of a Trim Developer and a Colorist. It includes the development of new trim components, originating from either technical drawings or and inspiration sample/photos. This position is responsible for the approval of color for all materials (fabric & trims). They will help provide technical support and trend direction in partnership with the Design Director. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who can work in both independent and collaborative environments.

Duties and Responsibilities: Trim Developer
• Initiate development of trim components for apparel and accessories utilizing factory resources and nominated suppliers
• Source New Trims form trade shows, supplier visits, market research and design briefings
• Drive Quality requirements and ensure developed components are tested and meet Klim’s “Fit for Use” standards
• Work cross functionality on any costing related challenges
• Manage Lab Dip approval to development timeline
• Collaborate with Design Director to establish trend in trim
• Communicates to team to bring awareness to trim availabilities
• Negotiate price, minimums, production location, lead-times
• Maintaining all component and testing data within PLM database
• Files and organizes lab dip rejections and approvals

Duties and Responsibilities: Colorist
• Manage the lab dip approval process from initial request through production fabric
• Collaborate with Design and Materials teams to determine color achievability across all materials
• Collaborate with Design Director to establish trend in seasonal color palette
• Files and organizes lab dip rejections and approvals
• Communicates color corrections with suppliers using correct terminology
• Works with designers to help solve any color discrepancies within a product
• Manage Lab Dip approvals to timeline
• Maintaining all component and testing data within PLM database
• Building and maintaining Bills of Materials in accordance with style specifications.
• Responsible for maintaining all New Colorway documentation
• Works with designers to review graphic layouts for size, scale, and on body placement

Qualifications
• Acceptable result of Farnsworth - Munsell 100
• Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook)
• Proficient in Adobe Illustrator
• Excellent communication skills. Able to drive conversations with Vendors, Suppliers, Design, Development, Quality, Sourcing and Production
• Travels as necessary to innovate and finalize development or approve color.
• Expert in color trends, color stories, color compatibility, seasonal color palette, and color application on footwear.
• Familiar with product manufacturing processes including materials/fabrics; plastics; pigments.
• Has experience in roller sublimation and digital printing development
• Understands color merchandising/line planning across multiple product categories and distribution channels.
• Knowledge of CAD programs, preferably in Mac environment
• Knowledge of color processing, from RGB to CMYK to L.A.B. digital color.

Education/Experience
• 3 to 7 years of design industry professional experience.
• Bachelor’s Degree in (B.A. /B.S.) in Art/Design, Fine Art, Industrial Design, Graphic Design, Textile Design, Fashion & Apparel design or equivalent work experience.
