ExOfficio is looking to add a Colorist & Fabric Testing Coordinator to its team in Rohnert Park, CA.

Summary/Objective:
Provides support to the Senior Manager, Materials Innovation in the selection of fabrics and finishes and in the development of new fabrics by coordinating with mills to develop and test new fabrications. The incumbent ensures that color, shade and hues are within acceptable tolerance levels throughout the lab dipping and bulk lab dipping process. This position maintains and updates the Fabric Master and the Fabric Library. As requested the Coordinator, Fabric Testing supports the Design Materials Manager to generate yardage forecasts for griege, samples and bulk production. As requested the incumbent coordinates with procurement, contractors and mills to minimize excess yardage, and prepare annual reports of yardage usage.

Essential Functions:

• Coordinate seasonal color lab dips and approvals with vendors as required by Design and Product Line Managers. Facilitate the information flow of standards in-house and the identification of standards to mills and factories. Manage the status of lab dip approvals in the Fabric Master. Evaluate color approval across fabrics and products for consistency. Determine embroidery color matches as required by tech pack.
• Maintain fabric library to provide Design and Product Line Managers with complete, up to date details to facilitate development efforts. Receive fabric headers from different fabric vendors, date and file them for easy reference. Research, gather and sort information, periodically deleting unused or obsolete items. Maintain spreadsheets such as the Fabric Master and serve as central information resource to Design and Product Line Managers for all fabric details. Name fabrics for ease of reference, considering use and characteristics. Develop seasonal strategies.
• Setup testing criteria for fabrics to assess performance and aesthetic compliance. Conduct tests on fabric and keep testing criteria current. Keep the Fabric Master updated with all current test information. Develop new product concepts and innovative fabrication and construction technologies.
• Support the Senior Manager, Materials Innovation in:
o Sourcing fabric to meet the requirements of the design from the Product Line Managers.
o Selecting mills and vendors that can best meet the specifications within the required price range.
o Developing sales sample fabrics.
o Assist in taking the Product Line Managers’ ideas and providing available fabric selection and cost information.
o Assist in advising fabric limitations and guidelines, considering weight, finish, durability, etc.
• Assist in communicating fabric quantities, delivery instructions, and timelines to mills and contractors. Assist in the follow through to ensure timely, accurate delivery of yardage to contractors. Assist in problem solving various issues that may arise during the fabric development cycle. Periodically visit mills to gain an understanding of their processes, capacity, and the intricacies of various fabrications.
• Assist in determining rough yardage needed by style, fabric and color; maintain specifications spreadsheet. Assist in forecasting griege requirements in the development and bulk production phases. Assist in ordering sales sample fabric by color for each season and year and providing reports of actual yardage usage, excess yardage in inventory at contractor locations, and rebate opportunities.
• Support the Senior Manager, Materials Innovation in the research and development of new and existing fabrications for use immediately and up to three years in the future. Attend initial planning meetings with mills and other vendors, and follow through with mills to develop schedules, communicate specific requirements, and ensure that ideas are executed and tested in accordance with initial concepts, cost restrictions, and agreed upon timelines.
• Provide support to Product Line Managers on matters pertaining to vendors: minimum order requirements, required lead times, and physical properties of materials. Help source fabric as requested by Senior Manager, Materials Innovation and Product Line Managers. Ensure no one mill has an exclusive production or a sole source advantage.
