About the job
The Product Developer/Designer is an essential member of the Workwear Product Development team who is responsible for providing technical designs and solutions to bring our innovative concepts to life. The developer has an aptitude for development processes, the ability to build detailed tech packs, knowledge of materials and manufacturing. All aspects of the design process from sketching to production are critical to the success of this role.
• Manage the design, development and execution of products from design intent through bulk production, with a focus on on-time, quality, deliveries with the required speed and flexibility in support of the brand strategy.
• Accountable for all aspects of design from researching industry and technical trends to sketching. Next steps include design adoption, gaining consensus and further advancing design details as needed.
• Accountable for executing the aspects of the product development process from Design adoption through Production.
• Effectively partners with the Workwear Product Line Manager to research trends and gather valuable feedback from our company partners.
• Partner and collaborate with overseas partners to ensure product execution including close collaboration with China office Workwear assistant who is responsible for reviewing samples, evaluating production and approving for all carry-over styles.
• Execute the testing requirements for Workwear. This includes establishing the testing, monitoring and capturing results. Making determinations for assortment based on results.
• Ensure that designs are manufacturable, meet cost and quality objectives.
• Travel to Asia to work with manufacturers and our China office on current and future development projects.
• Create and manage tech packs assuring documentation is current and production ready.
• Establish expertise in fabric development including gathering knowledge around future technologies. Be the source for new, innovative fabrics and their capabilities.
• Responsible for negotiating cost and aligning cost capabilities.
• Responsible for identifying trends and opportunities based on analysis of product performance and competitors.
• Ensure timely delivery of all projects and processes within timelines.
• Responsible for tech pack creation and revision throughout the product development process.
• Create, manage and adhere to calendar dates including communication of milestones both internally and externally.
• Coordinates and monitors proto samples for fit, quality, execution and construction.
• Effectively communicates with China office team to share product expectations and product details that lead to on time delivery of samples.
• Continuously grow knowledge of the product creation and manufacturing process, allowing for contribution of ideas that will enhance product performance.
• Support, coordinate, and execute aspects of product development projects according to seasonal critical dates, resulting in on-time delivery of prototypes, sales samples, and production confirmation.
• Ensures the continuous integrity of product specifications in PLM, including materials, patterns, markers, grading information, size charts, technical drawings, and other critical data.
• Work collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.
• Demonstration of innovation and initiative – always looking at improving our products and processes while also displaying a willingness to dive into the details.
