GENERAL FUNCTION

The Sr. Manager of Product Engineering has an equal and overlapping passion for developing great people and great products. The Sr. Manager plans, directs and oversees the development of new Oakley products from loose concept to market launch. Creates an environment in which people want to do their absolute best. Champions innovation, creative approaches, and curiosity while staying grounded in a commitment to deliver on time and in full.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Coaches engineering staff through the technical development of new products including mechanical engineering, material selection, tool and process design, tech drawings and other manufacturing documentation, for manufacture at both Foothill Ranch HQ and foreign plants.
Ensures that new products are engineered to meet design requirements including technical and aesthetic standards, mass-manufacturability, efficiency, safety, and quality.
Utilizes leading performance indicators to track progress and applies countermeasures as needed.
Reports status to regional and global teams.
Ensures that commercialization optimizes product quality and business profit objectives.
Establishes best practices and accompanying tools.
Manages, mentors, and grows direct staff. Regularly provides current, direct, and actionable positive and critical feedback to team members.
Defends spirit and morale of team with care and intentionality.
Closely collaborates with cross-functional teams including but not limited to: Design, Product/Marketing, R&D, Supply Chain, Sourcing, Quality, and Production.
Distinguishes the most critical tasks from the many and effectively applies time and resources.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS


Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or other Engineering discipline
8+ years’ experience in product development role
3+ years’ experience in a technical leadership role
Passionate about design and consumer products
Highly experienced managing multiple concurrent projects in fast paced environment
USA and Asia manufacturing experience
Familiarity with SAP and PLM software
Proficient in 2D tech drawings ANSI/ASME standards & best practices, GD&T, tolerance stack
Excellent communication skills with ability to interface effectively with coworkers ranging from senior vice presidents to production floor associates
Innovative, creative, and curious
Track record as positive change agent for product, people, and process
Ability to manage and resolve conflict and gain consensus
Ability to prioritize work, sense of urgency to meet deadlines
Fluent in Excel, Word, Visio, and PowerPoint


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


Consumer retail experience
Experience in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing: kaizen, sigma science, SPC, DOE, VSM, SIPO
