GENERAL FUNCTION

The Sr. Product Engineer oversees all new hard coating activities at Foothill Ranch. This includes new lens coatings, support of process improvements and industrialization of new hard coating technologies. Uses data-driven, scientific methodology and a customer-centric attitude to yield desired results and support Oakley’s best-in-class products.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Responsible for lens development and implementation of new processes/products for manufacturing.
Works closely with R&D, Quality and Process engineering teams on transitioning projects from initial proof of concept through successful release to manufacturing.
Tracks and communicates project status to applicable cross functional teams.
Creates and revises current lens engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
Applies scientific, data driven approach using engineering judgment and project management skills.
Applies technical fundamentals across multiple lens technologies using process controls and lean manufacturing methods.
Plans projects with detailed task lists estimating timelines.
Facilitates design reviews, project mapping, data reviews, and DOE review sessions.
Travels to Luxottica Manufacturing facilities in Italy and China depending on project.
Facilitates integration of new processes into production environment in line with quality, cost and fulfillment targets.
Provides excellent customer service to internal customers including Product team, Quality, Sourcing, Supply Chain and Manufacturing.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS


BS in Mechanical, Industrial Engineering or Chemical
5+ years’ experience in manufacturing environment
Proven ability to learn and use new technical information quickly and effectively
Proven self-starter, able to work with minimal supervision
Experience using MS Office, MS Project, JMP or Minitab, AutoCAD, SolidWorks (or other CAD)
Experience with organic resin extrusion or injection molding processes
Ability to diagnose and perform processing defect analysis, offer technical solutions or experiment to solve
Ability to travel to Luxottica Manufacturing facilities in Italy and China is required, up to 10%


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


Lean Six Sigma
Solid understanding of basic optics, polymer science
Solid background in DOE, preferably in manufacturing of plastics, organic resins, and coatings
Expertise in Materials Science, Chemistry or Polymer Chemistry
Familiarity with SAP and PLM software
Bilingual – English + Spanish, Chinese, or Italian
Familiar with Oakley brand/product
