GENERAL FUNCTION
The Automation Engineer helps shape the future of automated assembly of our eyewear. The Automation Engineer is involved in all the phases of projects including initial planning, detailed design, construction, commissioning and release.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Creates automation and machine design requirements including 3D drawing design, wiring, programming, safety features, and sourcing.
Details control schemes with wiring and system drawings for automation projects.
Designs PLC/HMI/Robotics (programming & creation of technical documents such as user requirements, functional specifications, detailed design specifications).
Troubleshoots and diagnoses design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies and proactively recommend revisions and/or improvements.
Helps other teams succeed through easy-to-use tooling, monitoring, and automation.
Engages in project planning to identify automation opportunities.
Prepares cost estimates and written technical proposals.
Generates network communication protocols for various control equipment.
Develops mechanical/electronic controls integrating assembly stations, 6 axis handling devices and conveyance devices.
Generates appropriate documentation specifying equipment requirements, verifying and validating its performance, and detailing instructions for operation, maintenance and repair.
Improves standards for assembly by working with engineering professionals to promote defect-free processes.
Interacts cross functionally from concept through test runs through the released manufacturing process.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
BS Degree in Engineering
3+ years’ prior experience
Experience in high volume production, with an emphasis on ergonomic design, yield improvement, labor and cost reduction
Experience with electromechanical systems
Experience in automating assembly processes
Proficient in PLC programming (Ladder Logic and Structured Text) and HMI development
6-Axis robotics programming/integration experience
Excellent conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
Ability to coordinate multiple tasks toward completion targets under minimal supervision
Good communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to interface effectively with engineering, manufacturing and production personnel
Understanding of Sensors, Robotics, Complex Mechanical designs and various controls for automated systems
Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling
Good project management skills with ability to create technical documentation
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with Collaborative Robots (YuMi)
Experience with Denso or Fanuc Robots
Experience in the Consumer Eyewear Industry
Lean and or SPC Training
Knowledge of Cognex, PPT, DVT, or Fanuc Vision systems
SOLIDWORKS proficiency
