The Advanced Product Development Engineer is responsible for finding and evaluating technologies and materials from adjacent industries in order to apply them to the products at YETI while providing support and guidance on the integration of those technologies to new product development teams. This position is responsible for helping drive technical innovation in new products through the appropriation of emergent technologies.

Responsibilities:


Contribute to the development of new product development capabilities, methodologies and expertise by staying aware to trends in the materials and processes technology fields and actively seek training to further improve skills

Contributing to development and implementation of R&D strategies through evaluation of new business opportunities, technologies and possible acquisition targets

Driving creative, logic and risk-based approaches to resolve technical challenges and tradeoffs under business constrains including strong capacity for critical thinking and analysis

Independently determining and developing technical solutions to complex problems using sound engineering principles and design of experiments (DOE) while utilizing experimental, computational and/or analytical methods

Leading design and fabrication of functional prototypes and test beds including development of robust test methods based on measurement system analysis

Planning and performing hands-on benchtop studies, design verification, troubleshooting and/or root-cause-analysis in order to evaluate product performance & improvements

Supports material, design and/or process changes to existing products by following design control process and generating well-documented research and analyses records

Demonstrate strong drive for results and clear accountability for successful and timely completion of designated tasks and projects

Interface and collaborate with external vendors/researchers


Qualifications and Attributes:


BS in Mechanical Engineering, Material Science or similar degree or higher from an accredited institution

8+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and work experience

Strength in scientific and engineering fundamentals based on first-principles understanding including critical thinking and systematic problem solving skills as well as business acumen and learning agility are essential requirements to be successful in this position

Proficiency in solid CAD modeling (Pro/E, SolidWorks or equivalent) and design for manufacturability including injection molded and related systems and assemblies

Advanced proficiency in development and fabrication of functional prototypes

Experience in phase-gate product development and new concept/solution technology proposals

Familiarity with any of FEA modeling software is a plus

Ability to effectively and clearly communicate concepts, ideas and knowledge to other individuals and teams
