As a senior member of YETI's new Vancouver Design team, this successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of the YETI brand and what it takes to deliver great design. The Sr. Industrial Designer - Bags will be the primary support element for Design working with the Design Director to solve construction challenges and create complete pattern sets for every prototype iteration. A high level of teamwork and collaboration is paramount to the success of our organization, “No One Succeeds Alone!”



Responsibilities:


Lead industrial design efforts through all phases of the design and development process

Take sketches and illustrations, paper mock-ups, and notes and begin creating a pattern ‘block’

Translate first pattern into full-scale physical form and evaluate with Design for shape and aesthetics as well as construction viability

Build prototype through balancing and incorporating changes to visual details as well as construction and sequencing

Test and evaluate the prototype for first hand usability and ergonomic issues

Communicate and work with the Developer to document new construction techniques and solutions into the ‘toolbox’

Partner with Developer to capture all materials, trims, construction techniques, and tooling requirements

Evaluate vendor prototype with Design and Development for construction and finishing




Qualifications and Attributes:


Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Fashion/Apparel, or related field

6+ years experience in industrial design and development of consumer products

Experience designing outdoor apparel or equipment, bags, packs and/or harnesses required

Engaging story telling ability through 2D sketching and 3D physical and virtual modeling

Strong communication and collaboration skills

Creative thinker and problem solver

A deep understanding of the product development process

Experience working with Global Manufacturing Partners

A “never settle” attitude

Personal interest and experience with outdoor pursuits is a huge plus
