The Intellectual Property Paralegal will support the management and strategic development of YETI’s intellectual property portfolio. We are looking for an energetic, driven, and experienced IP paralegal to join YETI’s growing IP Department. The right candidate enjoys learning and working hard in a collaborative environment. We are looking for a paralegal who can manage our current day-to-day IP prosecution matters and portfolio management responsibilities and who is willing to take initiative and work with inventors, content creators, and other departments with positivity and enthusiasm. Additionally, this position may also conduct advertising and marketing reviews, assess claims and appropriateness of substantiation, and otherwise help support the marketing approval process at YETI. Attention to detail, strong communication skills, influencing ability, relationship building, ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and bias for action are core requirements of a candidate.
Responsibilities:
Support all stages of the patent lifecycle, including identification, filing, prosecution, maintenance, defense, litigation, and other corporate matters as they relate to IP
Understand both U.S. and foreign patent prosecution, including the following: US filing and prosecution procedures, PCT and International procedures, Docketing, Information Disclosure Statements, etc.
Annuities/Renewals management
Formal document management: obtaining signatures for patent and trademark documents (i.e. declarations, assignments, Apostille certification, powers of attorney)
Coordinate and manage U.S. and foreign trademark filings, prosecution, and maintenance.
Prepare and file trademark applications, SOUs, extensions of time, amendments to allege use, Sections 8 & 15 declarations, and other filings with the USPTO
Manage trademark prosecution deadlines
Collect evidence of use for trademark prosecution
Perform and analyze trademark clearance searches
Review and analyze trademark watch notices
Communicate with outside counsel, foreign associates, attorneys and internal staff members regarding IP prosecution needs and deadlines
Conduct online investigations of possible infringements
Conduct copyright searching and application filing
Review advertising and marketing materials for proper trademark usage and accuracy of marketing claims and sufficiency of corresponding substantiation
Qualifications and Attributes:
Bachelor's degree required
Minimum of 4+ years of experience as an intellectual property paralegal
In-house experience is preferred
Working knowledge of intellectual property
Excellent written and oral communications skills are essential, as are strong interpersonal skills and customer service orientation
Advanced proficiency in the use of IP portfolio management and docketing software, preferably ANAQUA, and MS Office for the creation and editing of documents, spreadsheets, presentations and e-mail
Advanced proficiency in conducting trademark clearance searches and managing trademark watch notices, preferably using CORSEARCH
Demonstrated experience coordinating, managing, and docketing U.S. and foreign trademark and patent filings, prosecution, and maintenance
Ability to build relationships with all levels of clients
Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions
Ability to work independently and autonomously
Highly organized and detail oriented with a strong ability to review and organize numerous legal documents
Ability and willingness to take initiative to address problems and make continuous process improvements
A sense of humor and commitment to professionalism, integrity, and collegiality
