About the job
Original Grain is the premier maker of wood & steel watches. Each watch is handcrafted with material based stories such as Whiskey Barrels, craft beer, Military surplus, and other unique reclaimed materials. We have now moved into materials outside of wood such as recycled Ocean Plastic, partnered with workclass brands like Taylor Guitars, MLB, Jim Beam Whiskey, Rawlings, Golden State Warriors, using their materials to create a unique collection of watches. For each watch sold we plant trees and give back to local charities.
Job Description
As Original Grain has grown primarily as a watch company we’re now expanding into new categories such as sunglasses, apple watch bands, and other fashion accessories. The Product Designer will play an important role creating new colorways, material briefs & collaboration concepts, and helping design completely new silhouettes.. Designers will work directly with the founders to develop new concepts & bring them to life. Designers may communicate with suppliers to help explain design features & specs.
OG would like to find someone who has 3-5 years experience in wearable fashion & can provide clear technical drawings. Color theory and material finish is an added bonus we would like our product designer to have experience with.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
PRODUCT DESIGN:
* Develop design concepts with mood boards and color theory
* Provide A, B, C options to founders to decide on
* Develop product briefs and initial design concepts in 2D that showcase design build & colorways
* CAD design and tech specs
* 3D modeling a bonus (i.e. solidworks)
* Deliver design projects on time to meet key milestones
* Help develop & update new collaboration ideas (Taylor Guitars, Military, Whiskey)
* Help explain design inspiration and tech drawings to suppliers
* Contribute to aesthetic of new products through color, materials, research
* Help design update for core products & new product extensions,
Workload:
* Part time: Design jobs will be priced based on the campaign build & workload
* Remote work acceptable - Original Grain HQ in San Diego, CA
* Available 2x weekly during active projects
REQUIREMENTS:
• Portfolio of work is required for review
* Ability to work as a team player and take direction
* Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator)
* 3-5 years experience designing men’s and women’s accessories
* Organized and provided a clear design direction.
* Knowledge of materials (Wood, Plastic, Steel, Leather)
* Portfolio of work is required for review
