This job contributes to REI’s success by managing a technology department providing both collaboration engineering services and infrastructure project management services. The engineering services includes design, implementation, performance tuning and support for collaboration and messaging tools, such as Microsoft business tools (Microsoft 365, Power Platform, etc), intranet/portal technology, ServiceNow and other SAAS technologies. These technologies facilitate efficient, effective, and flexible communications and increase employee productivity. In this capacity, the manager provides direction to team, establishes work priorities, and evaluates proposed solutions to ensure that technology contributes to achievement of the division’s business objectives. Additionally, this manager oversees the infrastructure project management team, ensuring a consistent practice of project oversite, methodology, status, and vendor management related to various projects, including new REI locations and technology implementations/refreshes.

Maintains a high quality of products and services to help maintain REI’s competitive advantage. Models and acts in accordance with REI’s guiding values and mission.

Leading the Way (team leadership, coaching and development responsibilities for this “manager of staff”)

! Identifies and communicates key responsibilities and practices to ensure the organization promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork to achieve business results.
! Supports the implementation of company programs, procedures, methods and practices to promote REI key messages.
! Challenges and inspires employees to achieve business results.
! Ensures employees adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements.
! Oversees training and development of employees directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing decisions.
! Conducts and ensures the completion of performance reviews.
! Provides coaching, direction and leadership support to employees in order to achieve department, company and customer results.
! Establishes and maintains visibility within the department.
! Monitors operational statistics, reports trends, variances and issues, and takes appropriate action.

Your Planning & Navigating Requirements (the plans the job is responsible for creating and executing, and how the job ensures they are implemented)

! Identifies trends and new collaboration technologies, and recommends hardware, devices, operating systems and applications to meet specific business communications requirements.
! Manages a team of systems engineers in planning, design, installation and testing of new operating systems, devices and technologies comprising the messaging and collaboration infrastructure, in addition to a team of project management professionals.
! Oversees monitoring, maintenance and upgrading of company computing hardware and operating systems supporting messaging and collaboration. Provides technical guidance to ensure that systems are working effectively and that proposed systems or solutions will meet the organization’s current and future needs. Ensures consistency and standardization of the messaging and collaboration environment.
! Directs troubleshooting and second level problem and incident resolution for systems under management. Interfaces with service desk and other disciplines to coordinate support to users.
! Directs administration of security measures, including backup and disaster recovery practices, to protect messaging devices and technologies, as well as the employee portal/intranet.
! Oversees preparation of collaboration training and documentation materials and provides training and consultation to end users.
! Contributes to division strategic planning, applying a current knowledge and future vision of technology and systems which significantly impact the effective execution of business processes.
! Assists business areas in identifying current and future information services needs.
! Collaborates with other department leaders to identify business needs; plan, schedule, and coordinate work; and ensure integration of business needs and information technology solutions.
! Communicates with team regarding policies and procedures, projects and activities in other groups.
! Guides the team in the analysis of business requests and needs to ensure low-cost operation and effective utilization of staff and equipment.
! Follows the governance process for technology projects, ensuring that project goals and decisions are based upon business priorities.
! Prepares budget recommendations for staffing needs, costs of equipment and tools, maintenance, and future projects.
! Creates and maintains staffing plans. Ensures the team is properly trained and staffed to handle the projected workload, both from an internal staffing and outsourcing standpoint. Makes recommendations to management regarding long-term contractors and/or additions to staff.
! Provides management with accurate, timely and relevant information about the status of projects, personnel and activities within the team.
! Performs basic line supervision, including hiring, firing, conducting performance reviews, setting performance goals, promotions, salary increases, developing subordinates, and managing performance and discipline.
! Creates support structures to ensure that adequate technical support for end users is maintained at all times. Ensures that required technical tools and training are available to the staff providing support.
! Keeps abreast of technology changes and innovations in the information technology field.
! Manages or coordinates vendor relationships and contracts for products, services and support.
! Analyzes, assesses, and recommends improvements in programs and practices to ensure compliance with regulatory and internal controls.

Required Experience

! Bachelor’s degree in computer science or business administration, or equivalent training and experience.
! 5+ years experience in information technology.
! Experience managing multiple project teams and systems engineers.
! Knowledge of methodologies, standards, procedures, and organization that contribute to the development and deployment of technology solutions.
! Advanced knowledge of collaboration tools and services, such as Exchange, SharePoint Server, mobile computing devices, and messaging technologies.
