What's cool about this job This job contributes to REI’s success by leading a team of analysts (to include Sr. Analysts) who are accountable for optimizing REI’s inventory management from the DC’s to the stores through replenishment and allocation. This manager will be central to the development and execution of allocation/replenishment strategies and will interface with Director of Planning and DVP of Merch Systems and Operations to ensure inventory KPI’s are being met. This position will be accountable for the creating, maintaining and governing the processes which support in season inventory management. Models and acts in accordance with REI’s guiding values and mission. Leading the Way • Identifies and communicates key responsibilities and practices to ensure the organization promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork to achieve business results • Able to develop constructive and effective relationships with direct report team and cross-functional partners; able to maintain credibility and presence within the broader business • Supports the implementation of company programs, procedures, methods and practices to promote REI key messages • Challenges and inspires employees to achieve business results • Ensures employees adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements • Oversees training and development of employees directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing decisions • Conducts and ensures the completion of performance reviews for the Replenishment and Allocation team • Provides coaching, direction and leadership support to employees in order to achieve department, company and customer results • Establishes and maintains visibility within the department • Monitors operational statistics, reports trends, variances and issues, and takes appropriate action Planning & Navigating • Leverage expert knowledge to establish, implement and maintain best practices methodologies for inventory management via Allocation & Replenishment • Collaborates with key leaders in defining Co-op inventory strategies and approach to inventory movement/flow and makes critical decisions on behalf of the organization on how inventory is managed • Accountable for merchandising replenishment, allocation, and overall inventory management philosophy • Determine optimal inventory models across the network that maximizes the company's return while maintaining superior customer service levels • Provide leadership across all Replenishment and Allocation functions concerning analysis, generation of actionable insight and resulting recommendations • Accountable for performing inventory management practices gap assessment to consistently define and refine REI inventory allocation, replenishment and related inventory management strategies • Develop execution plans aligning with inventory management strategy, gaining alignment from collaborative partners in Merchandising, Digital Retail, Supply Chain, and Retail Operations, and communicating direction to the organization • Support and reinforce the strategic direction and goals for Replenishment and Allocation team • Defines and maintains performance goals regarding Replenishment/Allocation Demand Forecast accuracy and In-Stock • Collaborates with Marketing to provide increased promotional product visibility and refine processes • Develops preseason set up strategies including assumptions to support optimal inventory flow and support location demand • Builds strategy and establishes governance around constrained supply, vendor pre-pack by store, cross dock and allocation philosophies • Communicates directly with the Sr. Managers of Planning and Category Planning Managers on OTB planning and reporting • Responsible for building leaders by empowering team members and providing an atmosphere that supports individual growth • Contribute to development of the technical roadmap for the replenishment infrastructure • Stays current on industry best practices in merchandising, inventory management and supply chain processes • Aggressively drive current and future processes and systems utilization within areas of responsibility • Facilitate clear communication between product management, stores, supply chain, digital, marketing, private brands, merchandise planning and inventory management teams • Hold monthly inventory management conference calls with Directors of Retail Bring your passion and expertise • 8-10 years of relevant Merchandising and/or Supply Chain Management experience including personnel management, inventory planning, inventory management (forecasting, replenishment and allocation) and analysis with financial and assortment planning a key plus • Bachelor’s degree Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, supply chain, analytics, or mathematics - MBA preferred • Expert Knowledge of retail, merchandising and end-to-end supply chain process in a multi-channel retail environment. • Education emphasis in Engineering or Supply Chain and/or experience with supply chain management and inventory management systems preferred • Merchandising system working knowledge and experience: with SAP, Oracle, or other ERP system preferred. • Experience leading and developing strategic direction for inventory management processes, change management and business readiness. • Builds capacity of individuals and teams through effective employee development, involvement, communication, and supervision efforts. • Must be able to travel to replenishment or industry conferences as needed • Builds capacity of individuals and teams through effective employee development, involvement, communication, and supervision efforts. • Creates a strong, mutually supportive work spirit and culture where people can do their best. • Establishes trust and inspires others. • Makes effective organization and people decisions in a manner consistent with REI's values and ethics. • Delivers on commitments and holds others to same. • Champions the organization and advocates solutions in the overall Company's best interest. • Uses business knowledge, innovative thinking, and sound judgment in the solution of problems or the pursuit of business opportunities. • Consolidates information from various sources including feedback from others to reach sound decisions. • Considers the ultimate impact of decisions and actions on internal and external customers. • Fosters change in company direction. • Effectively plans and executes changes.
