This job contributes to REI’s success by leading the execution divisional projects that promote company identity, enhances the REI brand, and improves the operations for our store teams. Responsibilities include working cross-collaboratively to ensure a successful outcome to a variety of creative projects and visual communications. The Visual Communications Designer & Graphic Artist II leads and may direct the start to completion on assigned projects and exercise discretion in making impactful decisions. This job is expected to keep up to date with trends and explore new creative tools & opportunities. The Visual Communications Designer & Graphic Artist II is responsible for balancing multiple projects simultaneously and may travel to various locations to verify and/or execute projects.

! Lead and design all visual communication projects from concept to final publication in stores; leadership may include providing direct support on various tasks associated with the project as well as effective collaboration with internal, cross-divisional team, and external partners.
! Oversee and Design layouts for visual communications (templates, graphics, signing, production etc.) to align with brand standards and store user.
! Ensures project output aligns with the delivered method (print, digital) that resonates with the end consumer or retail staff. This includes providing written communication with installation direction for any given output (i.e. sign holder assembly or hardware needed to hang a sign) and expertise in digitial production.
! Assure project objectives are successfully completed and in alignment with REI brand through effective collaboration with leadership, internal, cross-divisional, and external partners/ vendors as project requires.
! Discover and innovate from market and field insights, retail trends, internal feedback and consumer behavior to adjust standards and communications for an understanding of future applications.
! Design all graphics and digitial renderings as needed for visual communications and store printed graphicis/ signing.
! Partners with SDVM leadership in the overall development of strategies, planning, and implementation to meet both overall business and marking objectives.
! Attends cross-divisional meeting with internal and external stakeholder to ensure objectives have been clearly delivered and are being acted upon. Informs SDVM leadership of any changes to original plan or strategic shifts
! Accountable for the accuracy of the content associated with the project.
! Drives project partners for cohesive output and responds to and/or coordinates inquiries on an agreed upon specified time frame.
! Completes other projects as assigned by manager.
! Some site travel may be required to review project application and needs.

Bring your passion and expertise

! 8+ years prior experience in Graphic Design and or Visual Communicaitons with a degree in Graphic Design, related degree and relevant industry experience may be considered.
! Proven ability to tell compelling direction through the use of graphics and print/pattern as it relates to the In-store experience and store staff.
! Skills to lead design thinking with prolific and proficient ideation process.
! Strong team/people leadership practices through establishing an environment of creativity, design excellence, teamwork, motivation, accountability and drive for successful outcomes.
! Excellent organizational & follow-up skills through verbal & written communication.
! Demonstrated behavior to be curious, challenge the status quo, and create continuous design advancement for product and the team overall.
! Ability to gather, express, and apply market trends to guide design direction.
! Compelling presentation skills across visual, written, and verbal forms to express design thought.
! Proven ability to plan and meet deadlines within a project’s timeline.
! Ability to collaborate with internal and external partners to achieve positive results.
! Uses business knowledge, innovative thinking, and sound judgment in the solution of problems or the pursuit of business opportunities.
! Consolidates information from various sources including feedback from others to reach sound decisions.
! Computer proficiency: Adobe Creative Suites and all office tools Retail store visual merchandising expierence a plus.
! Actively participates and collaborates with others on one's own team and across REI for the achievement of business goals.
! Flexible in one's viewpoints and positions in order to support the direction taken by others at REI.
! Uses business knowledge, innovative thinking, and sound judgment in the solution of problems or the pursuit of business opportunities.
