This job contributes to REI’s success by helping secure the co-op’s most valuable assets; our people and facilities. Responsible for the corporate office, distribution centers and special event Physical Security, Emergency Management and Business Continuity planning. Serves as a leader during crisis or emergency events across the co-op, including retail stores. Oversees and manages the development, implementation and update of the security plans, policies, guidelines and directives as they relate to the corporate office, distribution centers and special events. Manages employees and vendors engaged in physical and personnel security activities. Responsible for the development, update and compliance of appropriate assigned standards, policies, & procedures. Oversees the development, implementation, and updates the Business Continuity Plans and Emergency Preparedness programs. Investigates physical security breaches and criminally related activities, acting as the liaison with law enforcement agencies. Models and acts in accordance with REI’s guiding values and mission

! Identifies and communicates key responsibilities and practices to ensure the organization promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork to achieve business results
! Supports the implementation of company programs, procedures, methods and practices to promote REI key messages
! Challenges and inspires employees to achieve business results
! Ensures employees adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements
! Oversees training and development of employees directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing decisions
! Conducts and ensures the completion of performance reviews
! Provides coaching, direction and leadership support to employees in order to achieve department, company and customer results
! Establishes and maintains visibility within the department
! Monitors operational statistics, reports trends, variances and issues, and takes appropriate action
! Develop and foster relationships with internal partners to deliver results and resolve issues
! Design, implement, and maintain innovative programs/systems to address incident response, business continuity, and emergency management risks
! Solve large, complex, cross-functional challenges such as incident response procedures
! Cultivate relationships with law enforcement, government agencies, and security professionals
! Lead and cultivate relationship with security vendors
! Develop an in-depth understanding of businesses and needs
! Develop a deep understanding of growth and development plans
! Develop, implement, and maintain site or project specific security procedures
! Prepare operation orders and direct security and vendor support
! Partner with Human Resources, and Legal on security-related issues involving employees and third parties
! Field security requests for short-term and non-recurring assignments

Bring your passion and expertise

! 10+ years of direct people leadership in any environment
! 7+ years of experience creating security policies and procedures
! 7+ years of experience with access control and video surveillance software applications (e.g. Lenel, Milestone, OpenEye etc.)
! 7+ years of experience working in a facility and observing security gaps in physical barriers, security officer procedures, policies, surveillance equipment, and alarm points
! 4+ years of experience in dealing with security vendors and contractors
! 4+ years of experience in emergency response
! Excellent writing skills and the ability to review and edit the work of others
! Outstanding interpersonal skills required to establish and maintain positive relationships with other employees and external partners
! Experience presenting to large groups and senior executives
! Available to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
! Travel 10-25% of the time, with possible on-call responsibilities
! Builds capacity of individuals and teams through effective employee development, involvement, communication, and supervision efforts
! Creates a strong, mutually supportive work spirit and culture where people can do their best

! Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.
