Reporting to REI’s VP of Strategy, Planning, and Sustainability, this job contributes to the company’s success by serving as a key leader guiding our overall capital allocation across quarterly, annual, and longer-term strategic horizons. The Director of FP&A provides executive leadership with key financial and strategic insights to supporting enterprise decision making, and strong leadership to the Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) team. This role will drive the FP&A teams to elevate existing analyses and reporting in order to effectively steward future co-op growth and profitability. This role specifically partners closely with our Chief Customer Officer and EVP of Technology and Operations, providing strategic financial leadership across our marketing, demand creation, customer, technology, and supply chain capabilities and use of capital. It has a broad impact across the organization, through leadership and accountability for the quarterly, annual, and long-term strategic planning and budgeting process, financial forecasting, and financial support for strategic business initiatives. This role will be responsible for helping lead our FP&A team to effectively drive effective reporting, key performance metrics, and profitability analysis to drive better alignment of financials for senior leadership and the Board of Directors.
! Identifies and communicates key responsibilities and practices to ensure the organization promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork to achieve business results
! Supports the implementation of company programs, procedures, methods and practices to promote REI key messages
! Challenges and inspires employees to achieve business results
! Ensures employees adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements
! Oversees training and development of employees directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing decisions
! Conducts and ensures the completion of performance reviews
! Provides coaching, direction and leadership support to employees in order to achieve department, company and customer results
! Establishes and maintains visibility within the department
! Monitors operational statistics, reports trends, variances and issues, and takes appropriate action
! Crafts our financial strategic narrative to executive leadership and our Board of Directors
! Leads, communicates, implements and executes the quarterly, annual, and long-term strategic planning and budget processes in coordination with our Strategy team
! Provides leadership to the individual FP&A teams to ensure x-divisional alignment, rigorous financial stewardship, and team development
! Collaborates with REI Senior Leaders and Leadership Forum to create actionable annual and strategic plans
! Acts as the financial thought-leader and initiative driver for divisions; financial voice to senior executives
! Develops and implement new investment and profitability frameworks and metrics, including integrating customer metrics
! Provides analysis and develops presentations for REI’s Board and Audit and Finance Committee
! Oversees the monthly operational and financial review and communicate findings to senior management
! Accountable for monthly reporting and forecast development and accuracy
Bring your passion and expertise
! 10+ years of financial planning and analysis or similar relevant experience
! Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Business, Accounting, or similar MBA or similar certification
! Proven success executing a corporate-wide budget cycle
! Demonstrated ability to identify, analyze and objectively solve problems using sound judgment
! Excellent written and verbal communication skills and experience interfacing with Board of Directors and senior management professionals
! Ability to effectively handle multiple competing priorities and deadlines under pressure
! Demonstrated effective leadership, supervising and interpersonal skills to instruct or assign work to others, motivate and coach, and evaluate work performance
! Advanced PC experience working with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with Essbase, SAP, and/or equivalent planning and ERP systems
! Demonstrated project management skills
! Experience working in retail, consumer and/or technology companies
! Builds capacity of individuals and teams through effective employee development, involvement, communication, and supervision efforts
! Creates a strong, mutually supportive work spirit and culture where people can do their best
! Establishes trust and inspires others
! Makes effective organization and people decisions in a manner consistent with REI's values and ethics
! Delivers on commitments and holds others to same
! Champions the organization and advocates solutions in the overall Company's best interest
