The Income Tax Manager will have primary responsibility for all income tax aspects of the corporation’s tax function, including assisting with and review of the preparation of all federal, state, and local income and franchise tax returns, estimates, and extensions. The position will work with their team to track and respond to all income and franchise tax notices and audits and reconcile all general ledger income tax related accounts. Secondary activities will include support of year-end tax provision work; assistance with federal and state tax planning and research; and multi-department projects which interface with the tax functions. This position reports to the Tax Director. This job contributes to REI’s success by keeping the co-op in compliance, assessing income tax savings opportunities as well as income tax risk control. Models and acts in accordance with REI’s guiding values and mission.

! Supports the implementation of company programs, procedures, methods and practices to promote REI key messages

! Ensures employees adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements
! Oversees training and development of employees directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing decisions
! Conducts and ensures the completion of performance reviews
! Provides coaching, direction and leadership support to employees in order to achieve department, company and customer results
! Establishes and maintains visibility within the department
! Monitors operational statistics, reports trends, variances and issues, and takes appropriate action
! Assists the Tax Director in creating and implementing effective policy and operations for managing and complying with tax regulations for federal, state, and local income taxation
! Assists with effective business planning for the tax department's annual operations, compliance, audit, and staffing requirements
! Leads in team development, management, and operation of company policies and compliance processes to ensure team can function effectively
! Ensures the company is prepared for and compliant with audits from federal, state, and municipal authorities, as well as with the company's auditors and examiners
! Assists with creating change in company tax policies and procedures to better achieve economies and efficiencies and better management of tax operations through a continuous process improvement mindset
! Ensures the accuracy and operation of all income tax systems are running properly and efficiently

Bring your passion and expertise

! Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
! CPA or Masters in Taxation
! Progressive experience (3+ years) in managing the income tax area for a medium to large corporation with multi-state operations
! Management experience over corporate income tax and policy for a major retailer or consulting firm with a major retail client
! Preparing and reviewing federal, state and local income tax, franchise and other miscellaneous tax returns, estimates, and extensions
! Leading income tax audits Leading tax projects, including tax planning or research
! Quarterly and annual tax provisions, including tax reserve and effective tax rate analysis
! Experience with tax provision and compliance systems/tools. (Corptax a plus)
! Strong PC skills (MS office)
