This position is responsible for building and developing a new cross- divisional working team that will support the growth of the activity based business. This team includes marketing, planning, analytics, digital, IT, finance and project management functions. The manager is responsible for onboarding and directing the team to meet business goals and milestones and modeling a new, ambidextrous way of working at the REI. The manager plays a critical role in creating clear goals and roadmaps for the working team as it rapidly evolves and grows in a highly ambiguous business environment.

This role will contribute to REI’s success by driving the development of a activity strategy, activity based customer offerings and new business models that delight customers, disrupt industry standards, and ensure the commercial health of the co-op. The Manager will use both internal and external quantitative analysis and customer feedback to develop creative and clear product and business roadmaps for customer offerings and rapidly test, measure and iterate pilots, and ultimately deliver scaled and viable customer facing solutions. The role will monitor trends and emerging technologies and assess how new opportunities that support key business goals can be leveraged to connect people to our co-op and create a seamless experience. Specifically, the Manager will closely partner with technical teams to determine optimal digital solutions for the customer experience while also driving the right physical experience for customers. The Manager will be held accountable to the strategic activity roadmap and budget and be required to regularly update leadership stakeholders on key milestones. Models and acts in accordance with REI’s guiding values and mission.

Leading the Way

Planning & Navigating

Partners, informs and influences divisional subject matter expertise and executive level leaders around activity initiative decisions.
Embraces dynamic conversations, challenging the status quo to bring activity initiative strategies to life.
Provides clear concise communication around the activity initiative across the organization and to executive leaders.
Primary owner of the 3 year activity imitative strategy, drives the required alignment and clarity to ensure timely execution.
Supports the development and execution of the consumer-focused activity strategy and vision supported by external and internal analysis

Owns, develops and maintains strong relationships and communication with stakeholders
Build and lead a cross-divisional working team to support business objectives and deliver against key milestones
Act as the main point of contact and manager for the activity
Develop, own, test and operationalize creative, high quality and simple road maps based on team strategy and vision
Explore, identify, and build partnerships with third parties that can help REI deliver advancements to the activity customer offerings.

Manage prioritization and trade-offs among customer experience, performance and operational and marketing support load
Work cross-functionally and closely with engineering teams, retail operations, sustainability, marketing, supply chain, and merchandising to deliver products to market
Proactively identify and resolve issues that may impair the team’s ability to meet strategic, financial, and technical goals
Work with cross-divisional leadership to identify and drive critical program gaps
Facilitate and lead collaborative cross-functional meetings to support and inform the strategy and product roadmap
Drive product launches including working with public relations team, executives, and other product management team members
Help develop and model new ways of working and getting to market with customer facing products
Develop capabilities to effectively measure and report against key KPIs
Will require some travel to visit markets

Bring your passion and expertise

BA or BS degree from an accredited college or university
MBA preferred
5+ years of people management and leadership
7+ years of work experience within the retail/consumer, finance, or management consulting fields
Experience coordinating product development cycles, developing partnerships to drive customer solutions, and launching products to customers
Strong sense of business ownership and customer obsession
Ability to navigate in ambiguity and drive clarity for key stakeholders and leadership
Strong analytical skills and experience building financial models, monitoring KPIs and managing a P&L
High attention to detail including precise and effective customer communications and proven ability to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously
Experience finding avenues to hear from customers and work in their feedback into your product road-map; then deliver results
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to build trusted relationships with all levels of the organization
Advanced experience in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, experience with Tableau preferred
Actively participates and collaborates with others on one's own team and across REI for the achievement of business goals.
Flexible in one's viewpoints and positions in order to support the direction taken by others at REI.
Uses business knowledge, innovative thinking, and sound judgment in the solution of problems or the pursuit of business opportunities.
