Industrial Designer Job in Los Angeles, CA

Thousand is a fast-growing consumer goods brand making tools for urban travelers (i.e. people moving around cities under 3 miles via bike, scooter, skateboard.) We have a strong brand, established traction, and a high performing team to fuel our growth.

Thousand is on the lookout for a thoughtful and experienced Industrial Designer to lead the ideation and design of Thousand’s future products within the urban mobility space. The Industrial Designer will partner with the CEO, creative team, product developer, and suppliers to bring innovative products to market from concept to market delivery- including inspiration, concept generation, prototyping, suppliers specs, sampling, and product launches.

This is a cornerstone hire for Thousand as it’s first in house industrial designer to lead our 3 year product vision. You’ll thrive here if you love take a human centered approach to designing thoughtful, beautiful, and innovative product.

In this role you will:

• Forge a deep empathy for our customer’s pain points, in order to solve a consumers problems in a way the industry hasn’t before. We zig when others zag
• Head up concept ideation, sketch concepts or leverage software to bring ideas to life across multiple product categories
• Generate 2D and 3D models for design feedback, evaluation, and testing
• Lead colors, materials, and finishes development of future and existing product lines by staying current on trends in design, urban mobility, and fashion
• Push forward new ideas, and solve problems with our product development team and manufacturers/supplier to develop best in class product
• Understand manufacturing processes to assess costs, identify possible production issues, and ultimately choose the best production methods
• Create and maintain tech/spec packs and CMF documents to deliver to our manufacturing and supply partners

Who you are:

• A consumer centric designer; Forward thinking, thoughtful, and detail obsessed
• Bachelor in Industrial Design or a related field
• 4+ years of experience in a product or industrial design
• Strong sketching and rendering abilities
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite
• Proficiency in 3D modeling, rendering and prototyping (Solidworks, Fusion 360, Rhino, Alias, Keyshot, etc)
• Knowledge of technical materials, construction methods and manufacturing processes (e.g. textiles, plastics, electronics)
• Ability to work under tight deadlines.
