Position Summary

This role represents a hands-on position responsible for managing and maintaining accounting and finance records in a best practices manner for a rapidly growing division of an international company and best-in-class brand in the action sports industry. This position is responsible for maintaining the integrity of inventory costing and profitability of the organization utilizing in-depth analytics research, modeling, and reporting.

The role will focus particularly on perpetual standard inventory costing, planning, forecasting, in addition to variance and gross margin analysis to ensure the accounting books and records are accurate and the Company’s profitability goals are achieved. This role integrally participates in the month end closing process by evaluating general and subsidiary ledger account activity, providing reconciliations and adjustments as necessary to ensure accurate and timely reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP and IFRS, as applicable, to the international parent company for consolidation. This role supports biennial independent audits by Canyon’s outside accounting firm, annual internal budgeting process and interim forecast updates, as well as additional projects directed by executive leadership.

All candidates must be broadly skilled team players with a high level of intelligence, business acumen, deep analytical and computing skills with strong knowledge of the purchasing cycle, cost accounting principles, inventory-related issues, and possess the desire, drive and self-motivation to thrive in a fast-paced, demanding environment.

Summary of Role and Responsibilities
• Manage and maintain all elements of the inventory costing system, including but not limited to, in-transit, raw materials, work in process, finished goods, and merchandise under a perpetual system and standard costing valuation method.
• Regularly compile and evaluate supplier costs affecting inventory, propose and update standard costs as necessary with the approval of the Accounting Manager, and report on variances from published standard costs.
• In collaboration with Purchasing and Accounting Managers, ensure a streamlined and efficient process is in place from purchase order placement and maintenance, product receipt, and supplier payment to reduce variances associated with the full inventory purchasing and supplier payment cycle.
• Regularly compile, organize, and report on product margins to ensure alignment with Company’s stated targets.
• Regularly analyze and report on MSRP changes and customer sales order data to determine impact of sales discounts and price increases during the period.
• Assists with preparing annual sales plan, interim forecast updates, and determining acceptable inventory levels.
• Works with Accounting Manager to drive and report on Canyon’s key inventory and financial performance metrics and participates with the team on ensuring timely period-end closing and financial reporting.
• Ad-hoc assignments and reporting as deemed necessary.

Major Challenge:
• Ensuring accurate and timely costs are recorded and maintained for all inventoried products and key profitability targets are achieved.

Education, Experience, and Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Minimum Education Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Work Experience:
• Minimum 3 years of experience managing inventory costing and working within the full cycle purchasing function.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Strong background in inventory and job costing, inventory process, and key margin/profitability metrics and calculations
• Strong analytical skills using large volumes of data
• Problem solving skills
• Adaptable to fast paced environment
• Strong MS Office skills, in particular Excel

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Previous experience in same or similar business preferred
• CPA or candidate a plus
• Experience working with international trade matters a plus
