We have an immediate opportunity for a Bike Product Director – U.S. Market.

Position Summary:

The US Bike Product Director is the champion of the Canyon USA bike portfolio and specific US consumer spec/design/graphic needs. He/she is responsible for managing the day-to-day bike related project work to develop, market and sell bikes in the US market with particular emphasis on MTB and although the role will not be limited to MTB, it is the focus in product and culture. The core responsibility of the position is to lead a cross functional process of creating the bike sales and development plan. The bike plan starts with a market/competitive analysis, defines the intended use for a specific consumer profile that is specified in a bike model by model product brief, then the portfolio which is translated into a forecast and profitability analysis for the entire annual bike plan.

The bike plan serves as the basis for the annual plan (business case) which the US executive team develops and submits to the Koblenz executive team for approval. The US Bike Product Director would work closely with the marketing and sales teams to develop product lifecycle promotional plans and is in part responsible for generating the gross profit on the bike category.
Working closely with the Bike Category Managers and Product Managers in Koblenz, the Bike Product Director follows up on all product development activities to insure a successful “cradle to grave” product lifecycle of the bike portfolio. The US Bike Product Director is also responsible for ensuring the US bike marketing is in alignment with the global brand direction.

Summary of Role and Responsibilities:

• Managing all Bike Product management for the company; directing and overseeing all activities not limited to but focused on analyzing the product reviews, NPD, 99spokes and consumer market feedback to create the right spec/design/graphics/costs and deliveries to ensure sales targets and profitability are hit within the defined time frame (generally the fiscal year).
• Research rider trends, travel to events, connect with riders, connect with Canyon retail and Inside sales to build a product line that is innovative and commercially relevant
• Create product briefs to set vision, lead frame and component projects in close collaboration with engineering, industrial design, and graphics
• Mange the product line: models and specifications
• Work with sales and marketing on go to market strategy and pricing
• Help facilitate communication of product vision, features and functionality to sales team and the Canyon service center.
• Monitor and ensure integrity between product, website, and BOM.

What You Need To Win:

• You’ve got the vision and creativity to drive innovative solutions for tomorrow’s needs with a keen sense of what is driving trends and how to stay in front of them again with a particular emphasis on MTB but not exclusive to MTB.
• Ability to empathize with riders and use that insight to create products that reflect their needs, including: product design, function, compatibility
• Technical understanding of bicycles and bicycle related components
• Directs and oversees the creation and publication of all bike materials to train the Inside Sales team
• Working with the VP of Operations Director, owns the bike forecast
• Holds overall responsibility for US bike brand management that is strategically aligned with Canyon global and US marketing. Works closely with the US Marketing Director to execute all aspects of the marketing plan and culturally leads the MTB directives.

Minimum Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Engineering or a related field

Work Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree preferred and 5-8 years of cycling industry experience as a product Director, Manager or Bike media product review expert
• Proven track record of successful team leadership and achievement of results
• Thorough knowledge and experience in Product management
• Experience in consumer direct marketing (B2C)
• Strategic thinking, yet comfortable with and effective at tactical level
• Thorough product knowledge of bicycles, especially categories: XC, Trail, Enduro, Gravity and eBike
• Strong and effective creative project management and ability to lead and direct outside resources
• Ability to manage multiple projects on various levels with different?and converging timelines
• Excellent verbal and?written communication skills
• Ability to clearly articulate goals and objectives to a wide range of audiences.
• Comfort level working independently and cooperatively to lead a diverse group with a bias towards actions that generate consumer awareness or engagement.
• Operating experience collaborating and aligning with global counterparts and ensuring global brand excellence on a regional level.
• Previous experience working with a premium positioned brand and understanding tactics that can both build or potentially erode brand equity.
• Marketplace understanding and ability to activate a network of internal and external resources.
• Sufficient experience and knowledge of Microsoft Office to independently create Power Point presentations, be an excel spreadsheet wizard, to analyze or create marketing collateral materials.
• Excellent interpersonal skills – willingness and ability to resolve conflicts in an appropriate and constructive manner
• Experience in determining and managing budgets
• Current passport and willingness and ability to travel up to 30% domestically and internationally
• Stellar presentation skills with the ability to inspire others to see your vision – a natural communicator, both written and oral
• Collaborative, team-player with an open mind and good listening skills
• Strong bike mechanic skills
• Ability to master our internal product line management software in order to manage projects

Work Environment:

Work is performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available.

Position requires up to 30-40% of travel both domestically and internationally. Passport is required for this position.
