SUMMARY:
 Under the direction of Global Sourcing, the Footwear Materials Manager will lead the material and trim sourcing, development, purchasing and material delivery tracking for inline and SMU footwear.
 
 
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Be the key contact and consultant for all material related questions for all internal interfaces within the America’s offices.
Lead all cross-functional discussions related to materials topics, steer the material selection process and drive material consolidation to improve material efficiency.
Build and maintain a close relationship with interfaces such as Design, Merch, Product Development, Sourcing, Quality and Suppliers.
Ensure availability of correct materials data in PLM (technical data, cost, toolbox, lifecycle)
Provide a seasonal pre-advise to all specialty suppliers when the digital material palette is published. Work with factories and development to assist the on-time delivery of any seasonal specialty materials. Assist with any material delivery issues.
Run material usage reports in PLM at each deadline and provide that data to the product creation team as well as material suppliers. Assist development when material substitutions need to take place. 
Act as a gate keeper for all selected “material types” to ensure alignment and avoid duplications of materials
Work with design and merchandising to create hand loom requests for yarn-dyed wovens. Track the number of hand loom requests sent each season. Present a PO list of yarn dyed woven materials for approval.
Manage the on-time completion of all yarn dyed woven material deadlines. Order additional sample rolls if needed and after receiving approval.    
Identify suitable sources for new material developments (aligned with the broader sourcing strategy) and guide suppliers to translate the design vision into new, innovative material which meet commercial needs of the brands.
Initiate and monitor all material developments (work together with Suppliers, Sourcing, Development, Vendor Management and Quality)
Manage, monitor and measure all material vendors; track performance as it relates to our business requirements with a special focus on capabilities, capacities, costing, lead-time and minimum order quantities. 
Ensure that all selected materials are being tested and approved in accordance with applicable calendar timelines
Cooperate with cross-functional team to create a focused material toolbox and coach the cross-functional team on how to improve material efficiencies
Set up and maintain the materials library and work on continuously improving the setup and tools for the product creation teams by utilizing local and global partners. 
Provide latest information on material trends to the respective brands also by gathering innovative input from relevant fairs, supplier meetings, apparel material show, etc.
Understand the product creation calendar in-order to schedule material supplier visits and mill weeks at appropriate times in our process.
 
 
 
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/EDUCATION:
Education & Industry Exposure: Bachelor’s Degree in a related field preferred. 
7 years of relevant work experience in material development and sourcing with a deep understanding of manufacturing processes (textile manufacturing that focuses on fabric formation is preferred).
Technical Background: 3 years action sports or athletic industry exposure preferred.  Excellent product sense, proven brand and business management skills, strong marketing skills, organization skills, general business acumen. Proven ability to analyze large data and visualize data for use in decision making and strategy formation. 
Service Track Record of demonstrating an entrepreneurial spirit and proven leadership working with cross-functional teams, including cross-culturally with global teams
Staff Development Abilities: Strong project management, including cross-culturally with global stakeholders.  Strong Analytical and Market skills
Tools/Technologies:  Extensive use of computer (Word, Excel, Power Point, Illustrator CS and Photoshop a must)
Other:  Superior communication and presentation skills, with strong influencing and persuasive talents. negotiation methodology experience preferred.
