About the job

Reporting to the Sr. Global Design Manager, the job of the ROXY Senior Footwear Designer is to conceptualize, design and execute sketches, tech packages and prototypes for footwear styles within designated product categories and distribution channels. With an advanced technical background and deep understanding of the ROXY customer, the Senior Designer seeks to progress the footwear category through innovative design and footwear concepts that support business needs and promote brand strategy. The Senior Designer works closely with the Sr. Global Design Manager to help lead and mentor the design team, consistently demonstrating the professional traits and behaviors expected as an example of the standard of performance, and approaching design and business challenges with positivity and creative problem solving. Additionally, the Senior Designer assists in driving seasonal storytelling and promoting consistent design language through all product categories.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
     ! Develops and executes creative and innovative design ideas that are functional, emotional, strategic, and in alignment with brand strategy and aesthetic DNA
     ! Identifies current and future design opportunities that fuel and elevate the brand through market research and business analysis  
     ! Researches functional criteria for new design concepts and applies to product build
     ! Maintains design consistency through ought the product line in support of seasonal design strategy and storytelling outlined by the Senior Design Manager
     ! Thinks outside the box and applies creative problem solving to address design needs and/or business issues
     ! Identifies and analyzes current market trends in shape, styling and technology and presents this information to design team during weekly design meetings
     ! Creates professional level presentation of ideas; from thumbnail renderings, to technical cad work and conceptualization imagery and samples
     ! Digitally renders and techs models with technical and proportional accuracy
     ! Selects colors, materials, trimming and branding for new styles that is aligned with seasonal storytelling and overarching brand strategy
     ! Applies graphic and print artwork to new and carryover styles
     ! Creates outsole designs that promote accurate fit, functionality, and aesthetic DNA
     ! Creates Special Make-ups for various ROXY accounts based on product briefs and seasonal storytelling
     ! Analyzes and evaluates team design work and critiques professionally
     ! Partners with Footwear Product Management and Development team to fulfill business needs outlined in product briefs that promote brand strategies, aesthetic DNA, and costing initiatives 
     ! Partners with internal and external sales staff to gain and maintain understanding of specific needs and challenges in different retail channels and how they affect product design
     ! Researches color and style themes across various distribution channels and ensures that product is consistent with market trends and needs of ROXY customer 
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/EDUCATION:
7+ years design experience in the junior and/or athletic footwear market
Preferred Education: Bachelors or Associates Degree in Fashion Design, Footwear Design, Industrial Design, or related equivalent 
Strong conceptual thinking, creative problem-solving skills, and ability to advance and drive ideas
Highly Passionate and excited, seeking to improve and perfect design work at all stages of the development process
Advanced level of proficiency in Adobe Suite and business communication software (Microsoft Word and Powerpoint)
Advanced technical understanding of footwear construction and the ability to digitally render and correct upper patterns via digital shells and prototypes
Ability to conceptualize and design outsole tooling that is accurately built to address fit, shape, and technical details outlined in brief
Ability to select and alter last shapes based on design intention, addressing key trends in shape, ROXY fit standards, and specified proportions outlined in briefs
Strong ability in initial design and prototype evaluation to create/maintain shapes and proportions that are in alignment with brand DNA and design language
      !   Advanced understanding of footwear production techniques and ability to design with efficient production in mind
Advanced knowledge of textiles and trims, and their application and/or limitations with various footwear constructions
Ability to analyze online, in-store, and forecasting research and create trend right product for the ROXY customer
Strong taste level in working with color/print and the selection of silhouettes and textiles that are aligned with the ROXY brand aesthetic and seasonal storytelling 
      !   Ability to distinguish and prioritize customer and consumer needs over personal tastes and preferences to deliver commercially successful styling that meets the stated product briefs
Strong communication and collaboration with cross functional teams (product management, development/sourcing, sales), business accounts, and product vendors
Ability to manage multiple projects at once and meet seasonal milestones and deadlines
Strong presentation skills and ability to influence and collaborate with internal business partners and external buying teams
High level of engagement and excitement in internal and external meetings, with results driven approach to design related issues
Strong ability to follow up and follow through
Excellent organization and time management skills 
Detail oriented and highly motivated team player that seeks to mentor and motivate junior designers and interns
A positive, creative attitude
Experience in PLMF System. * FRONTECH preferred
 
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
      ! International and domestic travel as needed (approx. 10%)
      ! Willing and able to work additional hours and help other designers when needed
      ! Ability to present trend direction and product in account meetings when needed
