About International Sanctuary

International Sanctuary exists to empower survivors of trafficking to embrace their true identity and worth. Since 2007, International Sanctuary has established a successful social enterprise empowering survivors of human trafficking. Survivors work within the growing brand, PURPOSE, through all aspects of the supply chain: manufacturing handmade jewelry, managing inventory, and supporting distribution.

Position Description
Reporting to the Brand Director, the Product Designer for International Sanctuary will design products launching under the PURPOSE brand. The Product Designer requires strong creative talents, organization skills, the ability to think outside the box, troubleshoot, be resourceful, and work with individuals of other cultures, educational levels, and backgrounds. The Designer will research design, concepts (trends, materials) and design a minimum of three collections (Fall/Winter, Spring/Summer) for International Sanctuary’s social enterprise, PURPOSE Jewelry. The Designer will create a competitive product line that supports our brand’s strategic and financial objectives, and develop and execute product designs that achieve overall product strategy and merchandise objectives. This role will lead the organizational effort in the development of all product, working and communicating with all Sanctuaries overseas and domestically: creating tech packs, specs, models, and line sheets for all collections of the brand.

The Designer plays a critical role in the entire product development process. The Designer will work with the Research and Development Team in each field office, the Product Development Specialist and the Supply Chain Manager to ensure the collection is created and manufactured according to organizational feasibility and annual timelines. The Designer works closely with the Product Development Specialist to ensure that the mission of International Sanctuary, to empower women escaping from human trafficking, is being fulfilled.

Responsibilities
-Manage concept to adoption process for collections within the timeframe established by the seasonal calendar
-Ensure designs feasible, meet merchant line plans, assortment strategies and overall creative direction
-Design into targeted price-points, categories and silhouettes in accordance of margin requirements
-Follow current branding guidelines and corporate branding standards
-Protect brand integrity and brand identity
-Work closely with the staff and Product Development Specialist, to review designs and raw material that will elevate our -brand, hitting financial requirements. Resolves designs that do not meet design, merchandising, production or financial needs.
-Oversees the maintenance of all standards for issued for brand consistency.

Design Inspiration and Brand Representation
-Produce cohesive product presentations, including boards and samples
-Interpret design/style trends into brand appropriate product that fits within targeted market and retail pricing
-Develop seasonal fashion and color trends reports based on internet research

Prototyping and sampling
-Monitors, schedules, tracks, and reports on all requested prototypes.
-Track production of all prototypes samples rounds, and official model
-Reviews all prototypes and live test to insure faithful execution to spec.
-Reviews and oversees of all specs tech packs for accuracy, completeness, quality, affordability, and compliance prior to release.

R&D Sanctuary Collaboration
-Supervises, schedules and tracks all pre-production samples to insure exact execution of final design. Reviews and approves all production materials, addressing variances with suppliers, merchandising, design and production.
-Coordinates with development and teams to manage spec turnover within calendar to insure timely prototyping, and finalization through to production.

Tech Packs and Documentation
-Produces a thorough and complete tech pack in a timely manner
-Update/Edit all spec tech packs content as required for all assigned areas
-Maintain shared folders of accessible tech packs for each Sanctuary

Costing & Sourcing
-Works closely with Product Development Specialist on seasonal offering to provide options in materials, suppliers, techniques, and costs that are on brand
-With internal materials and with direct sources, work to execute materials that are viable for our brand, trends, costing, and quality
-Provide market insight identifying competition and market needs
-Emphasize matters of cost and efficiency in order to improve the margins

Calendar
-Builds, manages to insure timely turnover of development of prototypes samples rounds, and official model placement of final production.
-Works collaboratively with the Supply Chain Manager and Product Development Specialist to monitor calendar and promote flow of development; apprises and resolves calendar variances with team and management.

Communication
-Reviews and communicates style/material minimums, material costs, and lead times to cross functional teams in development.
-Communicating daily with direct Sanctuaries on questions and changes to specs, tech packs, and aiding in interpreting design needs.
-Understanding that the design process can be difficult and requires open/honest/consistent communication that supports growth
-Clear and realistic expectations for self and others which is empowering to others and trauma informed
Set healthy boundaries that promote balance and growth

Product Integrity
-Aims to instill quality in the product from onset of development through final production.
-Reviews all components with an eye for quality and durability.
-Insures that all components and constructions used are compliant for performance and restricted substances prior to production.
-Tests questionable materials and treatments in development cycle for durability and compliance to prevent a lapse in product flow in production.
-Reviews all products for customs compliance needs prior to production.
-Maintains accurate compliance records in the event of audit by applicable authorities.
