<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Life desk at</span><a href="http://vice.com/"> <span style="font-weight: 400;">VICE.com</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> is looking for an energetic, motivated senior editor to help lead coverage in at least one, and ideally several, key areas. The right person has a reporting and service background with a track record in producing pieces that have helped spur or significantly contributed to informed conversations around health, wellness, self-care, sex, relationships, and work. They also have an excellent story sense, a talent for time and resource management, and a critical eye for emerging trends and themes that will guide them toward thoughtful, timely, punchy, sometimes funny, always human stories.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The ideal senior editor for this desk has a developed critical eye and is capable of helping writers thread the needle of producing entertaining, informative, grounded stories. This person will serve as a senior leader within the desk and will motivate members of the team to produce their best work. They will think strategically and creatively about packaging and formats, always looking for the most interesting way to tell a story, and seek opportunities to collaborate with the social, video, and events teams.</span></p>

<p><strong>ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Overseeing writers (staff and freelance) in conceiving and sharpening pitches and executing a strong daily mix of stories</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Editing and top-editing quick hits and longer pieces</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Collaborating on packaging and formatting decisions between edit leadership and writers</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Recruiting and working with a diverse stable of talented writers</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Collaborating across the social, video, and events teams to help design ideal packaging for pieces</span></li>
</ul>
<p><strong>QUALIFICATIONS:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">At least 3 years of editing experience in one or more of the above beats</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">A quick metabolism for generating conversation-starting stories</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Experience delivering a mix of service and reported stories that set themselves apart</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">A clear idea of the themes that matter and how to approach them</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">An aversion to clichés and boring writing</span></li>
