About the job

Segment Producer, Politics

About VICE

An international media company that captures people at the heart of stories, and focuses on the ideas, issues, and context that other outlets miss. Launched in 1994, VICE operates in 35 territories across the globe, making 1500 pieces of content every day with a focus on five lines of business: VICE Digital, an award-winning international network of digital content; VICE STUDIOS, a feature film and television production studio; VICELAND, an Emmy-winning international television network; a Peabody award-winning NEWS division; and VIRTUE, a global, full-service creative agency with 26 offices around the world.

VICE x News

The award-winning VICE News team develops and produces news content across VICE platforms and partner platforms. The news team focuses on in-depth longform storytelling and unique and creative ways to relay topical daily news. This is a collaborative team that works together to make everyone’s stuff better. We believe in listening to everyone’s ideas and bringing on a diverse group of people who love working together to make the best, most unique news content out there.

Role x You

As a politics segment producer, you will work on guest and panel segments related to current and past political events. You should have a deep understanding of the political climate in the US and how it relates abroad. You understand how to produce a conversation that’s smart and not a regurgitation of talking points, or news that’s been blasted all over other networks and platforms.

In the short term… you will pitch panel and guest ideas and angles, then work with the show teams to make segments of compelling conversations. You’ll use elements of video and sound and graphics where needed, and work with the production team to make them awesome.

After 6 months in this role… You will have a sense of what works to differentiate Vice in the politics-talk sphere and how to home in on those kinds of conversations on TV.

And after a year… You will be pushing to cover more interesting angles, in more unique ways and building a deep rolodex of the smartest political minds out there that Vice viewers want to hear from.

Qualifications

You have these:

Excellent news judgment and particularly strong knowledge of politics

Excellent communicator - with host, senior staff, and production crew

Collaborative team player with a positive attitude

Able to develop a unique “take” on the day’s political news

We’d love if you also had these:

Relationships with potential political panelists and guests (faces you won’t see everywhere else on TV)

Experience working in Washington, DC in the political sphere

Political Science or similar degree or equivalent experience

Ability to develop and pitch unique story ideas and angles, with research to back it up

Excellent writing skills
