Director, Transcreation (Maternity Cover)
About the Role
As the lead for transcreation for VICE Digital you are responsible for the translation and localisation of our digital content into 8 languages around the world across our three brands: VICE, Refinery29 and i-D. You’ll oversee and manage the Translation Hub, based in Amsterdam, and its team of copy editors, translators and operations specialists. You’re a localisation evangelist that thrives on complex linguistic and localization challenges and ensures that the quality of VICE’s translated output is always of the highest quality and standard.
Internally you will assume a key leadership role in advocating for the importance of localisation within the organisation and are the go-to person for all translated needs. You’ll interact with multiple internal stakeholders from a variety of different departments, brands and lines of business. You’ll constantly look for opportunities to further localise our output.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee the translation and localisation vision and strategy for VICE: assess key priorities across various content formats, languages, and capabilities
Own the process of identifying content to be translated and localised and identify key content priorities against global content strategy. Work with local Editorial leads on content selection to ensure that we’re making the best possible decisions.
Oversee and provide leadership to a team of Copy Editors and Translators and provide feedback and development to ensure consistent improvement. ?Ensure all output meets a high standard, has been through QC and is approved prior to being published.
Oversee and manage the budget for the translation team and ensure that we are tracking spending against it.
Be the voice of localisation and translation across the business, working closely with senior leadership to deliver on key milestones.
Develop, build and maintain a solid and productive network of external language providers who are trusted to provide translation capabilities for a variety of different needs when required.
Qualifications
Extensive experience in internationalisation & localisation of content, combined with a solid background in leading editorial and localisation teams.
Experience in centralising localisation efforts and setting up localisation frameworks for various content types and languages.
Experience working across multiple teams, regions and cultures.
Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask and
prioritise key projects against strict deadlines.
Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
Strong understanding of the VICE brand, tone of voice and style.
Startdate: end of August 21 for approximately 7 months
