Role x You
VMG is looking for an Associate Director to lead a wide range of crucial activities across the VMG portfolio (Refinery29, Vice & i-D). The Associate Director will work within the Production team and work very closely with each brand’s lead and report directly to the Director, Commercial Production. The ideal candidate will have experience working as a Production Executive or Senior Production Manager, on track to a Head of Production role.

The Associate Director will be responsible for VMGs UK commercial Pre-Sales process, ensuring this translates to profitability and best production practises through post-sale to delivery. The Associate Director will own and oversee all production aspects of VMGs response to pitches: from providing production insight to bringing the brands’ creative vision to life, to budgeting and adhering to profit margins, and checking production feasibility from a budget/timeline and production capacity point of view. At post-sale, they will be responsible for tracking and overseeing financial performance across all productions through to delivery, and for all legal, contracting and compliance across the portfolio, ensuring every production meets the highest legal and health & safety standards.
 
Critically, to be successful in this role, the Associate Director needs to be a natural leader, decisive, solution-focused in a fast-paced environment, with exceptional teamwork skills and a varied production background covering film production (short-form, mid-form and long-form), photography production, branded publisher content creation.  

The Associate Director needs to love owning multiple pitch-projects and budgets, timelines & legal scopes to ensure the production team is set-up to successfully deliver the commercial work. With a can-do attitude, the Associate Director will work closely with the team to find solutions to every challenge and transform those into learnings and better/more efficient ways of working.

The Associate Director Prod has great enthusiasm and interest for Vice, Refinery29 and i-D, in order to work with the production team members and share knowledge across the department. 

 
Responsibilities
Responsible for managing, developing and overseeing all production aspects of the commercial pre-sales process across Vice, i-D, R29 in the UK market working very closely with the Director, Commercial Production.

Working very closely with the Production leads, the Production team as well as the Creative, Strategy and Sales teams to deliver creative budgets & schedules and for accurate production pricing from pitch phase (ballparking) through to final budget.

Trafficking and assigning RFP briefs by directly managing the RFPs and/or assigning them to members of the production team and leaders (while understanding overall team capacity and utilisation).

Identifying trends in offerings, pricing & timelines to create long-term efficiencies and develop pricing strategies across the product and brand mix of the VMG portfolio to drive business as well as simplify/streamline workflows.

Apply strong knowledge of film budgeting, scheduling & shooting across multiple locations to enhance the pitching process for the Vice platform.

Collaborate with Refinery29 to enhance the pitching process for all R29 / lifestyle brands (social video content, photoshoot content, editorial content).

Collaborate with i-D to enhance the pitching process for all i-D | Fashion & Luxury brands (social video content, photoshoot content, editorial content).

Ensuring margin & profitability targets as set by commercial leadership are met during the pre-sale and post-sale process

Working closely with the Commercial Creative Leads & the media team to support creative development by adding rigour and agility to the budgeting process during the pitching phase.

Set and manage the overall pre-sales portfolio delivery of projects, with responsibility for the effective management of all projects within the portfolio.

You will understand any risks and challenges associated with bringing VMG’s projects to life and be able to respond to and proactively manage solutions in the pitching phase to help set-up the production team for success when delivering the work.

Assess rights & clearances, usage & talent considerations during the pitch and pre-sale process, collaborating closely with relevant teams where necessary, and ensuring legal compliance throughout post-sale to delivery.

Work closely with the Director, Commercial Production and the global finance and business team to ensure consolidated production finance tracking across the UK brands. Helping develop best practices, and ensure the accuracy & validity of reporting. 

Work with the teams delivering projects to ensure that productions are brought in on or under budget.

Responsible for all legal contracts being issued & approved by the legal team and signed by clients. 

Ensuring a smooth handover to the production team once the project is signed.

Line manage a team of production managers.


Experience
You have these:
Extensive experience in the field as a Production Executive or Senior Production Manager, Producer, Line Producer ideally across a diverse range of types and genres of projects, and with a variety of production companies and clients.

Extensive bidding & budgeting experience.

Unflappable & collaborative, with excellent interpersonal skills and a passion for finding creative production solutions.

The ability to track multiple work streams, delegate sensibly and take ownership.

Outstanding organisational and prioritisation skills.

The ability to work well under pressure and flexibility in coping with rapidly changing circumstances. Always have a can-do attitude to find solutions and find efficiencies.

You will ideally have experience working on creative production ideally on global brands with a fashion/luxury/beauty/travel/lifestyle background.
