ABOUT THE POSITION
Although we're an apparel and footwear focused company, technology is central to everything we do. Columbia Sportswears Digital Technology (CDT) teams enable an IT infrastructure across four global brands, a global supply chain, and 500+ geographically dispersed stores. These teams support in-store, mobile, and data platforms to enhance customer interface and service in an ever-evolving industry.

The Data Engineer is a member of the Enterprise Information Management team and is responsible for the design, development, testing, maintenance, and support of Columbias enterprise data assets. The Data Engineer will provide technical design, development and analytical support for Columbia Enterprise initiatives.

HOWYOULLMAKE A DIFFERENCE
Lead activities that include: data modeling (relational and dimensional), data lake & data warehouse development, data integration / ETL process development, OLAP semantic tier development, and support.
Continuously deliver and improve prioritized enterprise data assets that enable the growth of Columbias global analytics, reporting and visualization solutions.
Coordinate frequently with several enterprise support organizations and Columbia end users.
Manage scheduling, support, tools and maintenance of integration processes.
Identify project risks and impediments, notify management, and proactively work with other members of the team to complete assigned tasks as defined by project scope, timelines, and budgets.
Identify data quality issues and support Columbias data governance initiative by participating in necessary activities including data profiling.
Participate in the use of Agile practices to elicit and refine requirements through an iterative process of planning, defining acceptance criteria, prioritizing, developing and delivering enterprise data asset solutions.

An expert in data design & development and have a deep understanding of complex organizational analytical and data needs that enable improvements in environment design, efficiency, controls and the overall user experience of enterprise data assets.
A strong communicator that has an ability to work with all levels of the organization to advance Columbias vision for information management and analytics.
Highly conversant in the culture and changing landscape of information technology.
Curious and creative, always looking to deliver a superior product while working closely with a small scrum team.

YOUHAVE
A Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related field or a combination of education and experience.
3+ years of hands-on experience architecting, developing and/or managing the implementation of Business Intelligence solutions, 2+ years professional experience with one or more ETL tools such as Informatica, SQL Server Integration Services, Business Objects Data Services, or Spark, and 2+ years experience with a front-end BI suite/OLAP platform such as Azure Analysis Services, Cognos BI, BusinessObjects, or equivalent.
Experience in SQL and query optimization for data platforms such as Azure SQL DW/Synapse, Teradata, SAP HANA, Oracle, or equivalent RDBMS required. Experience with Microsoft Azure BI Stack: Azure Data factory, Azure Data Lake, Azure SQL Data Warehouse is a bonus.
Proficient in relational database concepts, including normalization, indexing, physical and logical modeling, creation of SQL queries and performance tuning.
Familiar with the Kimball and/or Inmon methods of data warehousing techniques, standards and best practices. Experience with management of a star schema implementation and related concepts such as slowly changing and late arriving dimensions.
Familiar with Data Lake and Spark concepts and have some hands-on experience working with Spark DataFrames, pySpark preferred. Experience with large scale data processing, data structure optimization and scalability of algorithms a plus.
