ABOUT THE POSITION
Columbia Sportswears dynamic global supply chain consists of 4 distribution centers, 430 retail stores, 80 apparel factories and 20 footwear factories worldwide. We pride ourselves on being able to get products to market quickly, safely, and in the most cost-effective manner. By leveraging data analytics, we are constantly pushing to make smarter business decisions and identifying innovative ways to make Columbia Sportswears supply chain more efficient and effective to meet our consumers ever-changing needs.

The Sr. Product Engineer is responsible for managing the development process for assigned apparel, accessory and/or equipment products by influencing and leading cross-functional partners, liaison offices and finished goods manufacturers. This role ensures that design integrity, quality, and target cost/margin are achieved/exceeded and that products are commercialized within established timelines. Must remain true to the creative direction of Design/Merchandising while considering manufacturability of the product in bulk production.


HOWYOULLMAKE A DIFFERENCE
Influence and lead Designer and Technical Designer to co-create critical design information related to the technical development requirements of a style.
Drive product development process from concept to commercialization through the use of digital and physical prototyping. Optimize processes around digital development software solutions and reduce the dependency of physical prototypes. Lead commercialization effectiveness that drives and delivers the brand promise to the Columbia Sportswear consumer.
Responsible for initial product cost estimations based on interpretation of product briefs and designs through extensive knowledge and understanding of vendors CM cost, profit and overhead.
Responsible for the product costing lifecycle including profitability. Providing solutions throughout the commercialization process ensuring that margin targets are achieved or exceeded.
Responsible for proactive engagement with the Technical Design team to ensure timely and accurate delivery of the technical design package. Enhance design and construction elements through the use of Adobe Illustrator that will result in the creation of accurate prototypes that are representative of bulk production.
Drive communication of all style development information to the appropriate liaison office, vendor or development center by consulting them on the progress and changes.
Responsible for product category creation of Bill of Materials, specifications, usages, measurements and construction.
Responsible for the proactive management of the product category commercialization process by driving timely delivery of prototypes, cost, margin and production quality execution of sales samples.
Lead strong cross-functional interactions with all Product Creation team members as well as manufacturers to ensure a coordinated and efficient process. Act as the face of Apparel Manufacturing throughout the commercialization process.
Resolve and drive the the non-compliance issue process by utilizing a PDCA model for continuous improvement of quality through the eyes of the consumer.
Seek out and communicate current apparel trends, understand the market and how it pertains to Columbia Sportswear consumers; continuous awareness of consumer product information.
Lead Columbia Sportswear quality standards by establishing protocol that includes testing of fabrics, trims, embellishments, applications and other components that are critical to product integrity and consumer end use.


YOU ARE
Possess innovative knowledge of materials and functional aspects of garments
Possess strong organizational skills and ability to work under pressure, meet strict timelines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Possess advanced written and verbal influencing skills to deal with various levels of management and employees within the organization as well as vendors and worldwide personnel. Ability to drive negotiated deadlines with cross-functional partners through thorough knowledge of downstream dependencies.

YOUHAVE
Bachelor's degree specializing in related field and 8+ years of experience in technical Product Development, Merchandising, Design or Pattern Making. 10+ years of experience without degree. Work experience directly related to the apparel product development is required.
Advanced knowledge of garment construction methods and manufacturing sewing operations, including pattern making, grading and marking processes.
