About the job

CALLING THOSE WHO LIKE TO GO A LITTLE OFF ROUTE

When our founders established the Bay as our base back in 1993, Mountain Hardwear was destined for a life of play. They wanted to make equipment and apparel that climbers and mountaineers could depend onbut they wanted to have fun doing it, too.

We bring the same stoke we have in the mountains to the drawing board. We express our brand through climbing, but more importantly, through the culture that we as climbers, riders, artists, innovators, movers, shakers (insert your thing here) create.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Were seeking an Equipment Designer at Mountain Hardwear, you'll partner closely with the other EQ Designers, Product Engineers, Materials Researchers, and Merchandisers to build the future product line of tents, sleeping bags, packs, and luggage. This position is specifically responsible for the form & function, fabrication, color, graphics, and all other aesthetic aspects of the products assigned. Were looking for people who are inherently curious, collaborative, have a passion for creation, and a drive to make our product better every day.

HOW YOU'LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Propose design ideas based on seasonal assignments with regard to fabrication, style definition, functional features, fit requirements, and other design details.

Discover insights and design opportunities through research into consumers, market trends, materials, and technology.

Generate concepts through brainstorming and other creative processes, and create sketches, renderings, mock-ups and other representations of the design to help communicate these concepts.

Regularly present and refine these product concepts through iterative design reviews.

Ensure concepts are aligned with seasonal brand strategy, market trends, and the end needs and values of our consumers.

Produce fully packaged design specifications of assigned products and work with Product Engineers and our factory partners to ensure successful product development.

Actively participate in and propel the prototype process. This includes initiating sample requests by working closely with Designers and Product Engineers, reviewing samples, rigorous product testing, and directing revisions as needed throughout the development cycle.

Communicate design/concept boards to design for color direction

Work closely with Materials Research to define new areas to research and source

Provide backup support for Senior Designer(s) on rush projects, projects requiring CAD skills, and assignments that cannot be completed by other staff members.

Bring a unique perspective and work with a team of creative-minded folks to elevate the Mountain Hardwear brand

Be a part of the Mountain Hardwear culture.
