About the job

As the Collections Manager you will manage the companys largest customer accounts for Columbias Credit department by ensuring the accounts are current and orders flow smoothly while building a strong relationship with those customers. You will manage our in house collection accounts by working with the Regional Credit Managers when their collection efforts have been exhausted. You will also be the liaison between Columbia and our external collection agencies.

Responsibilities:
Manage a portfolio of our largest accounts for payment of past due invoices via customer portals, email and phone.
Coordinate efforts to resolve issues for our large accounts relating to EDI, billing, terms, invoice copies, statements or any other requests they have.
Evaluate all blocked orders for assigned customer accounts. If orders cannot be released, work with Director of Credit and Credit Manager to determine severity of issue.
Communicate issues that may affect Columbias ability to ship product to Credit Management, along with Account Services Management and Sales Management.
Build relationships with Columbias largest customer accounts to ensure prompt payments and quick resolution of issues.
Work with Deduction Group as needed when notified of problems with large accounts.
Act as our in house collection department by managing the accounts that the Regional Credit Managers have not been able to obtain payment on.
Determine when an account should be sent to external collection agencies.
Be the liaison between Columbia and the external collection agencies, answering their questions and supplying requested information or funds to attorneys when lawsuits are necessary.
Monitor existing accounts expiry dates of credit lines and review those customer accounts by analyzing credit applications, financial statements, credit agency reports, industry references, and customer guarantees to determine credit worthiness and establish lines of credit up to established authority level. In addition, review account history and recommend credit limits/lines beyond established authority level to Financial Analyst, Credit Manager or Director of Credit.
Maintain online credit file (credit case) with current relevant credit information on customer accounts for easy retrieval by other Credit department members.
Maintain online contact notes to be used solely by Credit Department personnel.
Supply monthly status reports to Credit Manager of all collection accounts.
Review all past due accounts and give guidance to Regional Credit Managers regarding collection process as advised by the Credit Manager.
Negotiate settlement offers with customers as situations arise.
Recommend bad debt write offs when payment is deemed uncollectible.
Complete proof of claim or other necessary documents as needed for bankrupt accounts.

Requirements:
Requires Bachelors degree in Business, Accounting or related field along with 3-5 years experience working in credit and collections with an emphasis on collections.
Possess knowledge of credit granting, collections and accounting practices, procedures and policies along with the ability to analyze credit documents for accuracy, investigate questionable data, and advise others on how to do so.
Possess thorough knowledge of collection and bankruptcy laws.
Advanced level computer skills working in a commercial related environment using spreadsheets along with excellent written and verbal communication skills is required.
Must be able to read, write, and speak English and perform moderately difficult mathematical computations.
Capable of troubleshooting and solving problems of a moderately high complexity or difficulty along with working effectively under pressure or deadlines.
