As the Divisional Merchandise Manager - Global Women Apparel you will play a foundation role in the continued development and growth of Columbia Sportswear apparel by providing leadership and strategic direction for a section of the Global Women Apparel offering. Youll be responsible for identifying long-term trends and opportunities based on analysis of products, consumers and competitive trends in the market. You will develop seasonal initiatives and line plans. Working with the Director of Product Merchandising- Global Women Apparel, you will construct long-term business plans and drive to achieve these plans through creation and execution of the seasonal initiatives and line plans. You will manage a team of Product Merchandiser and Coordinator to guarantee best execution of the seasonal plans. You will be responsible to provide clear product direction to the Design team and work cross-functionally with the product creation team to develop product lines, meet key dates, and achieve targeted margins. You will partner with senior management across the company, at both Global and regional level, and develop a seamless working relationship with regional product merchants to insure optimal alignment between Global plans and regional growth opportunities.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

The focus of the Divisional Merchandise Manager is to meet the unique apparel needs of the outdoor apparel consumer. Through insight and in-depth knowledge of the industry and the consumer, this position will drive the creation of on-trend, market-right and brand-right product lines.

Create and present seasonal product lines and assortments leveraging market knowledge, consumer insights, trend assessment and financial risk and reward. Partner with senior management to guarantee that the seasonal plans align with the company goals and initiatives.

Provide leadership and direction to develop a collaborative working environment with product creation teams and regional market merchandising team. Resolve process issues and recommend ways to continually improve the interaction of team members as well as process efficiencies.


Present seasonal plans and product assortments to key regional partners, as well as senior management. Attend and present assigned product lines to sales force at sales meetings and key retailers during marketplace visits.

Partner with Marketing and Go-To-Market activation teams to develop compelling product assortments and stories that maximize brand perception and market growth across regions.

Manage departmental expenses and ensure that spending is strategic and to budget.

Secondary Functions:

Maintain positive open lines of communication with all Columbia management, staff and other departments in order to contribute to the smooth flow of information and efficient operation of the organization.

Coordinate merchant activities with Product Merchandising Managers to ensure processes are consistent, Apparel goals are met, and resources are optimally leveraged.

Job Scope:
Job involves a high degree of complexity in dealing with new and sometimes unique work situations.Duties are performed with only general directions and work is checked or verified more by results. Decisions are made within general company policy constraints. Errors in judgments can adversely affect company image, may lead to customer non-acceptance, inefficiency and delays in the production process and cause loss of revenues and/or profits. Responsibilities include substantial accountability for seasonal product execution.

Supervisory Responsibility:
Responsible for managing a group of professional employees and managers through both direct and indirect dotted-line reporting relationships.

Interpersonal Contacts:
Contacts are normally made with others both inside and outside the organization including interaction with Columbias subsidiary companies. Interactions tend to focus on strategic planning, problem solving, and information exchange. Contacts regularly include sensitive or confidential information. Communication takes a variety of forms including phone, fax, email, or face-to-face interaction.

Specific Job Skills:
Possess a deep and thorough knowledge of Apparel product creation and commercialization processes and functions, as well as good working knowledge of other functions including Sales, Planning, Marketing, Retail Merchandising.

Possess an expert understanding of the global Women Apparel Outdoor and or Athleisure market and consumer.

Requires strong leadership and diplomacy skills to guide teams and facilitate collaboration. Possess excellent organizational skills, excellent written and verbal communications skills and excellent presentation skills. Must have mental capability to troubleshoot and solve problems of moderate complexity or difficulty. Ability to lead and influence others is required. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with internal and external contacts both domestically and on an international scope.

Requirements:

Must have:
Minimum of 10 years product line management experience in the sportswear, outdoor or action sports industry.
4 plus years of experience at a Management level
Solid business management and product management skills and demonstrated financial acumen
Strong understanding of the consumer, retail environment and competitive marketplace
Thorough PC knowledge and proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Power Point

Ability to:
Remain highly organized and meet strict timelines while simultaneously managing multiple teams, seasonal calendars and projects
Identify and evaluate problem areas and contribute effective solutions
Encourage teamwork and create an environment based on trust and open communication
Lead by example through clear and thoughtful research and inspire strategy-focused results

Express complex concepts and technical material in written format

Must be:
Strong leader, communicator, listener, analytical thinker, presenter and have the ability to build team dynamics and relationships cross-functionally.

Job Conditions:
Job requires hours that may exceed 8 per day and/or 40 per week. Evening meetings and weekend work occasionally required to ensure timely project completion. Some job pressure exists in the balancing of several projects with conflicting priorities. Some travel both domestically and internationally is required.
