ABOUT THE POSITIONThe SOREL product design team works closely with the product creation team triad to initiate new, innovative product concepts to satisfy the demands of our consumers and customers; and to recommend and manage design modifications on carryover products to drive sales and growth for the company.

The product design team is looking for a Senior Footwear Designer with exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to create industry leading products and collections for assigned product category(s), on a worldwide basis.

Calculated risk taker. Take calculated risks with design as appropriate, and within the guidelines of the Brand directive. Effectively assess when and where more risky and adventurous design is necessary and be able to inspire and communicate this strategy to leadership and other designers on the team.

Entrepreneur: Identify opportunities, create and validate solutions, ensure commercial viability. Execute the vision.

Research worldwide marketplace and interpret consumer and market needs/trends as they relate to product category(s) to gain thorough understanding of customer/product requirements. Includes researching materials, components, color, and design concepts and collecting feedback from customers, consumers, and sales representatives. Travel for consumer/product research as approved by Columbia senior management.

Generate multiple, unique 2D & 3D product concepts per new model that address critical functional, aesthetic, and business goals on a seasonal basis. Provide design/concept boards to communicate design/collection creative direction. Design projects include new in-line and special-make product and update carry over styles.

Develop products that meet and, in some cases, exceed the merchandising product brief, brand vision, and target cost from sketches through digital line art. Communicate design concepts to Product Creation Team, including multiple views and detail sketches and/or technical drawings as necessary.

Help streamline the design process with the intent of maximizing department efficiency and meeting deadlines.

Participate in Business Unit Meetings, Sales Meetings, and other meetings as needed. Be available to present category products and design/merchandising information during key meetings and line presentations.


YOU AREUp-to-date with current and relevant trends and tools

Able to perform free hand drawings

Able to write technical material for clear product presentation and marketing

Able to conduct complex interpersonal interactions with employees and customers in a productive and collaborative manner


YOU HAVEBachelors degree in Industrial Design or related field preferred.Combination of relevant experience and education may substitute for degree

A minimum of 8 years experience in Product Design with an emphasis on footwear categories, specifically performance athletics / running / trail running / multisport / hiking / lifestyle and fashion.

Thorough knowledge of footwear design, materials and production techniques

Thorough knowledge of current 2D and 3D computer design software

Strong deductive reasoning skills and ability to perform complex mathematics and calculations
