ABOUT THE POSITION
The Materials Development Assistant is an important support role on the Material team. This role is responsible for supporting the overall execution of materials development from conception to production under direction of the Raw Materials Manager. This role assists the Raw Materials Manager and Raw Materials Specialist to achieve materials initiatives utilizing creative thinking, critical analysis, time management, and problem-solving skills. The position supports the fabric and trim development, data management, and department organization as needed for successful materials execution, leading to commercial execution of products. The position works under the close supervision and direction of the Raw Materials Manager.
HOW YOU'LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Sourcing Support
Helps prepare and assemble presentation of seasonal materials to Design team as directed by Materials Manager
Assist Materials Specialist with preparing and sending materials for seasonal sourcing
Development Support
Create and maintain physical and virtual Materials libraries and wash references
File all relevant development, sample, and bulk submit on a regular basis
Evaluate fabric submits against spec sheets and testing documents and escalate discrepancies
Collaborate with Color Specialist to evaluate and approve bulk trim and fabric approvals for production
Collect mail, tracks packages, and utilizes fabric WIP and Materials database to problem solve
Assists with tracking, documenting, and uploading development and bulk materials test report
Assists as needed to ensure accurate data gathering and input into systems
Communicates and follows up with vendors regarding materials as needed
Product Integrity
Makes thoughtful daily decisions to maintain high levels of standards in quality - from development to production
Gathers and communicate performance testing standards to Vendors seasonally
Helps to prevent, identify, rectify and problem solve quality or process issues with internal and overseas team members when materials do not meet standards and create solutions for future
Sustainability Environmental Health & Safety
Understands and works within prAnas standards of Environmental Health & Safety and how it relates to our employees and consumers, based on vendor requirements, Bluesign certified fabrics, sustainable fibers, Restricted Substances List (RSL), Fair Trade program, and social compliance
Develops and applies knowledge of prAnas Testing Manual and relates requirements to our daily decision-making, the Mills we work with, and what it means to our consumer

YOU HAVE
Bachelors degree or equivalent education in Apparel &/or Textile Product Development, Merchandising or Design is required
2+ years industry experience in product development
1+ years of working applied knowledge of materials (knit/ woven fabrics, trims, findings) in Apparel
Understanding of supply chain transparency and compliance
Entry-level experience in costing and negotiating
Working knowledge of PDM systems, Word, Excel, Adobe Illustrator, SharePoint
