These teams exercise expertise across Compliance, Credit, FinancialPlanning andReporting, Tax, Treasury, and Strategy. Advancing traditional Finance & Accounting functions, the organization is also driving exciting innovation in the applicationofadvanced analytics andautomatedintelligence.
The General Ledger Supervisor leads an accounting team responsible for general accounting and financial close procedures. The role primarily supports our North America business across Columbia Sportswears portfolio of brands as well as corporate activities in an Accounting shared services environment. He/She will engage with functional and cross-functional partners on issues and initiatives to provide expert accounting advice to support business and financial decisions.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
Oversee general ledger activities including month-end and quarter-end close processes requiring communication and coordination within your team and across Finance groups (North America Accounting, Corporate Accounting, Retail Accounting, Financial Planning & Analysis, and Tax).
Review accurate and timely journal entries, account reconciliations, and internal and external financial reporting deliverables to assist in preparation of GAAP financial statements.
Maintain and ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, the Companys accounting policies and internal controls best practices.
Provide fluctuation, budgeting and other ad hoc data analysis to Financial Planning & Analysis, Finance leadership and business partners.
Actively engage in projects or initiatives that deliver on strategic goals of the corporation and Finance function.
Develop and implement creative process improvements and best-known practices.
Provide accounting leadership and consultation to your team and cross-functional colleagues on a variety of topics such as capital assets, cash (order to cash), payroll & compensation, demand creation, and many others across the full balance sheet and income statement.
Interaction and engagement with internal and external auditors on SOX and financial statement audit activities. Ensure compliance with SOX controls assigned to you or your team.
Team Leadership Responsibilities:
Team leadership of a small team of accounting resources (3 or more) as well as engagement and interaction with a broader team of resources supporting accounting shared service activities.
Encourage and manage the full accounting team performance so that close deadlines are met
Develop staff by managing performance, setting goals, providing ongoing training, and maintaining strong employee relationships.
Fostering a continuous improvement mentality within the team and in the broader organization to simplify current processes.
Job Conditions:
Job requires flexibility. Hours may exceed average during month-end close and may require working on weekends and holidays to complete month-end closing process. Some job pressure exists in the balancing of several projects with conflicting and sometimes changing deadlines.
Desired Skills & Experience
Strong business acumen, with proven accounting skills in terms of GAAP and best practice financial controls and reporting.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
Flexibility to adapt to changing needs of the department and to various changes in priorities.
Ability to gather and analyze data, form relevant conclusions, and effectively communicate the results and conclusions.
Ability to express ideas and opinions to all levels of personnel, including management in various business units, while effectively soliciting cooperation to accomplish tasks and challenge ideas and the status quo.
Ability to solve problems, function independently and with discretion, and work effectively under pressure.
Team player with strong interpersonal skills.
Education and Credentials:
Bachelors degree in Accounting
ACA/ Masters degree in Accounting
Experience:
Minimum 9 years of progressive accounting experience;
Minimum of 4 years in managing direct reports.
Experience with SAP strongly preferred; Data analysis and reporting experience with Cognos TM1, PowerBI, and advanced Excel skills a plus.
