They wanted to make equipment and apparel that climbers and mountaineers could depend onbut they wanted to have fun doing it, too. Today, Mountain Hardwear is seeking an Outerwear Designer. Youre already one of us. So why not just become one of us?


As an Outerwear Designer at Mountain Hardwear, you'll partner closely with our VP of Product and Design, Product Development, and Merchandising teams to design an apparel line for assigned categories and projects within Outerwear. This position will initiate and interpret new product concepts to meet the needs of our consumers, resulting in sales and growth for the company. Were looking for people whohave a passion for creation, and a drive to make our product better every day.

Propose design ideas based on seasonal assignments with regard to fabrication, style definition, functional features, fit requirements, and design details.

Refine concepts as directed by the VP, Design and Brand Creative.

Coordinate efforts with Production/Sourcing to assure most effective results

Provide sketches and line art to communicate design concepts, including multiple views and detail sketches as necessary

Participate in the prototype process for the Outerwear category. This includes initiating sample requests by working closely with Designers and Product Developers, reviewing samples, and directing revisions as needed throughout the development cycle.

Communicating design/concept boards to design for color direction

Working closely with Materials Research to define new areas to research and source

Providing backup support for Senior Designer(s) on rush projects, projects requiring CAD skills, and assignments that cannot be completed by other staff members.

Bring a unique perspective to the Mountain Hardwear brand, and work with a team of creative-minded folks to elevate the Mountain Hardwear brand

A Bachelors degree or equivalent experience specializing in apparel design, fabric arts, or related field

2-4 years experience in apparel design

Outerwear experience preferred

Experience with the outdoor industry and apparel category preferred

Knowledge of computer design software as well as the ability to perform freehand drawings

A passion for creativity and exploration
