About Butter Cloth:
A gifted designer with an inventor’s mind, Danh Tran has always had a ferocious curiosity about fabrics and garment construction. Born in Vietnam, he grew up working in his family’s small tailor shop, making his own clothes by the time he was ten years old. As a boy he dreamed of coming to America to become a fashion designer.
Danh is proof that dreams really do come true. In 1994 his family immigrated to California. He took fashion classes at a local community college and landed a job at Mattel – designing clothes for Barbie. When he had saved enough money, he left Mattel and enrolled in his dream school, Otis College of Art and Design where he got his B.A. in fashion. Danh’s talent and mentorships later got him recruited by 7 for All Mankind, Hause of Howe (Union Bay), and finally Affliction Clothing where he was Head Designer for 10 years.
Danh always hated wearing dress shirts. “They’re stiff, they’re scratchy, and you can’t move in them!” So after 18 years in the fashion industry he decided it was time to do something about it. Using a special blend of 100% long fiber cotton and a unique manufacturing process, he created a profoundly soft fabric he named “Butter Cloth.” It has incredible breathability, 6-way stretch and an exclusive double-finished construction that Danh says, “makes you look like a Friday night, but feel like a Sunday morning.”
After launching in 2017, Butter Cloth’s explosive growth online caught the attention of ABC’s Shark Tank, and Danh was invited to the show. In October 2018 millions of viewers watched Danh make a deal with Shark Tank star Robert Herjavec - helping to take Butter Cloth to the next level.
The Butter Cloth story doesn’t end with comfort. Customers love the fit, and they appreciate the signature details found in every Butter Cloth garment - often prompting the question, “Where did you get that shirt?” You could say “it is a boy’s dream come true.”
