The Roxy Lisa Andersen East Coast Juniors Challange
Roxy and Lisa Andersen Will Be Scouting the East Coast this Summer for New Talent in the Water
(Huntington Beach, CA) May 16, 2006 --- Roxy, a division of Quiksilver, Inc. (www.quiksilver.com), the world's leading outdoor sports company, and Lisa Andersen, four-time world champion and Roxy Global Brand Representative, will be hosting a series of events along the east coast this summer to search for up-and-coming talent in women's surfing. The Lisa Andersen Challenge provides young aspiring female surfers the opportunity to showcase their skills for two of the most prominent names in modern-day women's surfing; Lisa Andersen and Roxy.
"We're really thrilled to get out there and share this opportunity with these young women," said Lisa Andersen, Roxy Global Brand Representative. "The level of talent in women's surfing today blows my mind. There are so many young, skilled and confident women in the water now and we want to show our support and help take them to the next level."
Lisa Andersen was the first Roxy-sponsored athlete and has been with the team ever since it was created in 1994. After retiring from full-time competition, Lisa became Roxy's official Global Brand Representative in 2005, and continues to be a symbol of the Roxy image around the world.
Chelsea Georgeson, 2005 Women's ASP World Champion, was offered a Roxy sponsorship at the age of 14 after she was spotted by Lisa Andersen in Avalon, Australia eight years ago. Along with Chelsea, the Roxy Surf Team roster boasts such names as 2004 Women's ASP World Champion Sofia Mulanovich, Megan Abubo, Kassia Meador and young phenoms Carissa Moore and Lee Ann Curren, as well as with many other female surfers around the world.
"The Roxy brand was created for young women who are active in the water and we have been so thrilled to watch the brand, and the sport evolve," said Randy Hild, SVP of Global Marketing, Roxy. "Lisa has nurtured so many young riders on our team and we're excited to continue to develop the program with new talent."
The Lisa Andersen Challenge invites advanced female surfers between the ages of 10 and 22 to compete for a host of Roxy prizes and the chance to be on the world-renowned Roxy Surf Team. The contests will follow a jam format with four to six surfers per heat in the qualifying round.
