ASR Runway Show

August 14, 2006

ASR’s high-energy runway provides the platform for action sports brands to show their commitment to fashionable swim and sportswear.

The flirty, fast paced ASR Runway Show is a must for buyers worldwide to discover new market trends and styles in young contemporary. The ASR Runway Show, co-sponsored by Foam Magazine, goes in motion the opening day of ASR, Friday September 8th at 12:30.

“The theme is young sophistication,” says Christina Smith, Stylist for the ASR Runway Show. “We want to showcase spring 07 on the runway to show buyers that the resources at ASR can hold their own in the young contemporary world, are on trend and that they have stepped it up on the fashion front.”

Models from leading agencies will showcase a diverse mix of sportswear, swim and accessories hot off the ASR floor.  Runway shows at ASR are characterized by glitz, music and glamour, but in addition they have also become an essential tool for buyers to trend forecast. The ASR Runway Show will feature a market overview of over 100 lines from established and emerging surf, skate, swim and youth culture brands. After the runway show, attendees can head straight onto the ASR floor to check out the featured lines in detail.

Southern California is home to many of the leading forces in swimwear, so it’s only natural for ASR to provide the platform to present these brands and styles to thousands of retailer buyers. Over 90 swim brands can be found on the ASR floor. " The ASR Runway is an excellent opportunity for buyers, retailers, and media to see first hand what new trends, materials, and expanded product each brand has to offer,” Monika Steinberg, Editor-in-Chief of Foam Magazine. Mix and match, bright colors and slightly fuller styling are influencing swim lines across the board for Spring 2007. “Look for fewer embellishments with the focus in swimwear shifting toward prints, fabrics, fit and pieces that merchandise well together across the board,” says Michelle LeBlanc, National Sales Manager for ROXY Swim.

In sportswear, look for styling on trend with high fashion brands. “Bright colors, bold stripes and plaids will reinforce the cleaning up trend in juniors’ sportswear,” says Mary Miller, Juniors Design Director at O’Neill. Skate, surf and youth culture brands are focusing on the development of their juniors’ line with designers, as well as marketing that can compete with higher-end contemporary fashion. The styling and format of the ASR Runway will bring together the looks for next spring, highlighting the fashion strides being made in action sports.
