Monster Energy Athletes Pack Up And Head To Portland, Ore., For Third Round Of ’06 Dew Tour

Pacific Northwest braces itself for today’s arrival of the world’s greatest BMX, Skate & FMX athletes, many of whom rock the Monster Energy clawed “M” logo

CARLSBAD, Calif., (Aug. 17, 2006) – Monster Energy-backed athletes competing on this summer’s Dew Tour head up to Portland, Ore., today for the Round Three of the summer action sports tour.

Leading the way for Monster Energy are BMXers Ryan Guettler and TJ Lavin, both of whom are in the top ten overall points in BMX Park and BMX Dirt, respectively. Guettler, last year’s dual Park and Dirt overall champion, finished 2nd at the series’ opener in Louisville (Ky.), then slipped a bit at Round Two in Denver (21st). Guettler is currently in 6th overall in the BMX Park points standings, 23 points off the overall podium after two rounds.

The veteran Lavin has a 6th and a 16th place finish in the first two rounds and is in 9th place in the overall BMX Dirt standings.

Noteworthy: Monster Energy’s Dave Mirra, currently 5th overall in the BMX Park standings (4th Louisville, 8th Denver) will not compete due to an injury suffered in practice at the X Games. Mirra will serve as a TV color commentator for the event in Portland.

On the skate side of things for Monster Energy, last year’s runner-up in the Vert competition, Pierre “PLG” Luc Gagnon, is out with a knee injury.  A huge bummer due to the fact that PLG was currently 5th in the standings (6th Louisville, 5th Denver) and was ready to break through in the last three rounds.  He is currently rehabilitating his knee and will back bigger than ever in the near future.  Monster Energy teammate Jake Brown, the silver medalist in the recent Summer X Games Big Air comp, is ready to compete and make a statement considering he was on the LG Tour during the Denver stop of the Dew Tour.  Also, new acquisition to the Monster Energy skate team, Jean Postec (France), will also be looking forward to busting out some new tricks and representing Monster Energy in Portland.

Over on the Skate Park course, Greg Lutzka – the Dew Tour’s defending Skate Park champion at Portland – is ready to bust loose. Last year Lutzka didn’t make a podium until Portland, beating the then undefeated Ryan Scheckler. Keep an eye on Lutzka this weekend for sure.

Finally, FMX will feature Monster Energy’s Adam Jones. Currently in 13th place overall (8th Louisville, 20th Denver), Jones is only 12 points out of the top ten. He’ll for sure make up that amount in Portland if he rides like he did in Louisville.

Also, Mike “The Godfather” Metzger, will not compete due to a series of concussions he’s suffered while practicing for FMX following his MONSTER back flip over the fountain at Caesar’s that the entire world tuned in to watch.

Monster Energy supports the sport. Be it motocross, surf, skate, snow, BMX – name it – the athletes are rockin’ Monster Energy more than anything these days. Check out all the flavors – Original Monster Energy, Monster Lo-Carb, Monster Assault and the new Monster/fruit juice hybrid called “Khaos.” All the boyz racing rockin’ the Monster Energy logo at the Dew Tour dig ‘em – so will you.
