Venice Beach Skateboard Event Helps Keep Kids Out Of Gangs!

Who: City of LA Community Development Department, Communities In Schools of the  San Fernando Valley and Greater Los Angeles, GFH Boards and invited guest including L. A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, U.S. Congressman Howard Berman, Senator Richard Alarcon, L.A. City Councilmen Alex Padilla, Tony Cardenas and Bill Rosenthal

What: The Venice Beach Skateboard Extravaganza/Back to School Event. A fun filled, family oriented event with food, music, skateboarding exhibitions by celebrity skateboarders (Tony Hawk invited), skateboard design contest and awards, TV/Movie celebrities and product information. We expect over 4,000 middle school students from the 27 LA Bridges 1 Programs throughout LA along with the thousands of beachgoers that enjoy Venice Beach on a typical Saturday.

When: Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006 10:30 AM to 4:30 PM

Where: Venice Beach California @ Windward Avenue, Venice Beach Recreation Center

Why: To raise resources to support CIS SFV/GLA programs that promote peace, reduce gang violence and expose youth to positive and productive lifestyles. The goal of the event is to encourage youth to dream and pursue their passions. We will celebrate youth and the City of LA's youth programs including 27 LA Bridges Middle School efforts and various Boys and Girls Clubs throughout Los Angeles. Our objective is to expose young people to the power of perseverance, determination, persistence and positive attitudes.
