ASR’s Loaded Event Schedule Fuels Its High-Energy Atmosphere

Pro skate contests, swim and sportswear runway show, useful seminars and fundraisers round out 3-business packed days at ASR

San Juan Capistrano, CA (August 21, 2006) – ASR arrives in San Diego, September 8-10th, bringing with it one of the most impressive event line ups in ASR history. Between writing orders, trend watching, hunting down new brands and hanging out with industry influencers, make time to check out a slew of events ranging from fashion shows to skate contests. In addition, ASR’s seminars provide a forum where retailers and exhibitors gather to get the scoop on trends, business basics and the industry’s future.

“ASR is the place where action sports gets the business of the season done, but it is also the best chance to network, learn from peers and catch up with friends,” says Andy Tompkins, ASR Show Director. “A diverse mix of events gives everyone at ASR a chance to celebrate the action sports lifestyle that brought us to the industry to begin with.”

ASR presents the éS Game of SKATE finals Saturday, September 9 from 1PM to 5PM. Thirty-two of the world’s best pro skateboarders, including Rodrigo TX, Andrew Reynolds and Paul Rodriguez, will face-off for $10,000 and go trick for trick in a single elimination tournament. The skate area will feature both a mini-ramp and a standard street course, where pro riders will be tearing it up throughout the day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

ASR is not only the place the industry meets to conduct business, but also to give back. Liquid Nation Ball 3 kicks off Saturday night to benefit SurfAid International. Pros, industry leaders and celebrities will be joining forces to try to top last year’s over $240,000 raised. Hurley will host Pool Rules the latest installment of Against the Grain, a series of events that blur the lines between action sports, music and art. Influential pool skaters/artists will show their work throughout ASR in room 17B with a party on September 8th at 4PM. The whole event benefits Grind for Life, a skate based non-profit supporting cancer patients. Also on the art show front, Emerica’s “Camp, Skate, Ride, Repeat, Ed Templeton Art Gallery” will feature photos from the Emerica Wild Ride Tour on Friday, September 8th from 6-9PM in showroom 14A.

High-energy fashion shows at ASR provide retailers the chance to see the trends in motion, while selecting product for the spring season. The ASR Runway Show co-sponsored by Foam Magazine hits only once this year on Friday, September 8th at 12:30 with a mix of swimwear, sportswear and accessories straight from the ASR show floor. Fashion goes in action Friday and Saturday hourly in the Goldbox Mission. Boost’s GoldBox Looks features dancers modeling styles from emerging lifestyle brands.

Behind all of the talent and excitement on the floor is the business of the action sports industry. Seminars run throughout the show with helpful tips for both exhibitors and retailers on how to better their business and plan ahead for future shifts in the market. Check out www.asrbiz.com for more details on all the events and seminars.

The end of work doesn’t mark the end of the day. ASR is the place for surf, skate and snowboard movie premieres, hot industry parties with national music acts, fashion and awards shows. Check out Nixon’s Party Planner at the show for more details.
