Reef’s Fanning Sandal Gives Back with Project BLUE

January 22, 2007 (San Diego, CA) – Reef is proud to announce a unique partnership with project BLUE, which is spearheading a sustainable fundraising effort to help protect our oceans, waves and beaches around the world. Reef has agreed to design a special edition project BLUE Fanning sandal, and will donate $2 per pair sold to the Surfrider Foundation. The Fanning sandal will retail for $49, and will be available on 4/15/2006.

Project BLUE is teaming up with other major surf industry manufacturers to create special edition products with recommended $2 donations going straight to preserving our oceans, waves and beaches through the Surfrider Foundation.

Reef’s VP of Marketing, Kevin Flanagan, notes, “When asked to partner with project BLUE it was a no-brainer. We felt this was a great opportunity to take our top selling product, and use that momentum to give back to the environment.”

Project BLUE founder, Vipe Desai, added further, “The continuous problems facing our coastlines everyday can no longer be overlooked. Now every consumer that purchases the project BLUE Fanning Sandal will play a direct role in protecting our coastlines, and every retailer that carries this special edition sandal will also be vital to this effort.”

The project BLUE edition Fanning will be designed identical to the original, but the styling will include a navy and royal BLUE color combination with the project BLUE identity on the inside upper. Comfort features include a contoured compression molded EVA footbed with anatomical arch support, accompanied by a 360˚ polyurethane heel bag. Most importantly, the Fanning sandal features a built in church key bottle opener in the heel.

“This sandal has great appeal,” adds Flanagan.  “We’re confident that consumers are going to buy it because it’s a killer sandal and it’s giving back to the environment that our consumer lives and plays in.”

Reef’s Fanning sandal will start giving back to the environment as soon as it hits stores in April.
