SurfExpo Hires Cullen Poythress as Skate and Wake Category Manager

ATLANTA, GA, July 20, 2007 – Surf Expo, a dmg world media show and the boardsports industry’s leading trade show, is happy to announce that Cullen Poythress has been named account executive for the show’s skate and watersports categories.

Since 2004, Poythress has served as a senior editor at TransWorld Business, where he directed the skate content for the magazine and consistently produced high-quality features and analysis that helped shape the direction of the entire skate market. A native of Atlanta, Poythress is excited to return to his hometown while serving the boardsports market in new and substantive ways. "The opportunity to move back to Atlanta while still being immersed in the skate industry and culture is a dream come true," says Poythress.

"We're thrilled to have Cullen as part of the team," says show director Lori Kisner. "He has tremendous respect in the boardsports market and his knowledge, his excellent work ethic, and his deep love for skateboarding will mesh perfectly with the rest of the Surf Expo staff."

Poythress has a life-long involvement in skateboarding, starting out as a manager of renowned Atlanta skate shop Stratosphere Skateboards. Working under the tutelage of Shop Owner Thomas Taylor, he learned firsthand what makes a successful skate shop tick. At the same time, he developed a solid understanding about what it means to run a skateboard company. "Torque Skateboards was headquartered in our shop," says Poythress. "Getting a chance to see and participate in all of the work that goes into running a full-blown skateboard company while also learning the ropes of retail was an invaluable experience."

Poythress is a graduate of the University of The Pacific where he studied writing. While in college he spent his summers managing Stratosphere and working as a skateboard camp counselor and instructor at the Woodward Skate Camp in Pennsylvania. Cullen is also a musician and attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts where he studied jazz, rock, and funk drumming.

"Surf Expo has always been an important component of the skateboard industry," says Cullen. "I come from east coast skateboard retail and I believe strongly in the market here. I look forward to continuing Surf Expo's tradition of excellence."

Cullen can be reached at (678) 781-7958 ext. or at [email protected].

The next Surf Expo is September 14-16, 2007. For more information, go to
