Attention ASR exhibitors – the ASEC Green Room is back and better than ever! Now positioned on the main floor of ASR January, the Green Room will allow thousands of retailers to see and learn how the industry is becoming more environmentally friendly by creating sustainable products and business practices.
There is no charge from ASR to participate in the ASEC Green Room, however there is a fee for the space via ASEC based on your membership status. 100% of proceeds for the Green Room will go to benefit ASEC.

A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT...
Welcome to ASR from the Surf Industry Manufacturers Association
On behalf of the Surf Industry Manufacturers Association (SIMA), welcome to ASR January and Happy New Year! ASR is a great way to jump-start your business in the new year. There are some big initiatives in store for SIMA this year as we will be launching our 2008 SIMA Retail Distribution Study, continuing our Boot Camp educational series, gathering the tribe in Cabo for Surf Summit XII, and increasing our fundraising efforts for both our Environmental and Humanitarian Funds. 2009 is also a time for celebration as this year marks SIMA’s 20th anniversary. We are proud to have called ASR a partner for the past 20 years and we look forward to working together for the advancement of the industry.
Calling All Retailers!
SIMA will be continuing its industry research initiative with the 2008 SIMA Retail Distribution Study. However, most importantly we need the help and participation from retailers. Retailers – The Industry Needs Your Input! Following the success of the 2004 and 2006 SIMA Retail Distribution Studies, the surf industry’s next comprehensive Retail Distribution Study is slated to begin in January 2009. The 2008 SIMA Retail Distribution Study will provide an in-depth view of the U.S. surf and skate retail market in 2008, covering the same areas as the previous two studies in order to provide valuable trending information and data covering the past six years.
The study will be accomplished via telephone interviews of specialty retailers at random. A targeted questionnaire will be presented during the interview with the goal of obtaining industry data and statistics covering areas such as regional and channel differences, brand penetration and category sales volume. Retailers can expect to begin receiving telephone calls in January 2009 asking for their participation in the study.
Retailers – your time and input is crucial to this study! Help the surf industry make great strides in market research and please participate in the survey should you receive a telephone call. All participating retailers will receive a complimentary copy of the report. Top-line data from the 2008 Retail Distribution Study will be announced and reviewed at Surf Summit XII in Los Cabos, Mexico, in May 2009.

SIMA Boot Camps – Report for Duty in 2009
Mark your calendar and gather your crew for the 2009 SIMA Boot Camps! Boot Camps are designed to allow SIMA members to benefit from intimate seminars on an ongoing basis that aim to provide valuable tips and tools to help your company improve a variety of daily business operations. The 2009 Boot Camp lineup of seminars each target a specific topic over the course of a few hours and are held in various locations throughout Southern California, with the goal of reaching a variety of employees and departments within SIMA member companies. ALL levels of employees from ANY department who would benefit from the educational seminars and industry networking time are encouraged to attend. Full schedules and registration information will be sent to the main contact at each SIMA member company prior to each Boot Camp. Non-SIMA members are also invited to register for Boot Camps at the non-member rate. Stay tuned for SIMA Boot Camp updates at www.sima.com.
